Ultimate Roofing (or any others)
#1
I need to get my roof replaced. Managed to get one (rather high) estimate from a legit contractor who hasn't been replying much to my emails, and had a hard time getting anyone else to answer the phone or return messages.  One bigger contractor said they don't do roofs anymore and referred me to Ultimate Roofing, saying they're their usual subcontractor. Anyone have experience with them? They seem to have practically zero online footprint.  Or any other suggestions or experiences with roofing contractors, good or bad?

Just a question - are shingle roofs compatible with catchment systems ? I only ask because all I'm familiar with here in Puna are the corrugated metal ones. I know when a family member on the mainland had to replace part of their very old roof after snow damage, it was recommended that 'fire resistant' shingles be used for insurance purposes. Would that create a problem for catchment ?

Avoid shingles if possible for catchment.

Wood shingles retain water and promote the growth of mold and other critters.

Asphalt shingles may leach chemicals, check with the manufacturer for details. I'm guessing fire resistant shingles are full of some chemical retardant that we are not meant to ingest...

No, you can't use shingles for catchment. Besides the chemicals in asphalt shingles they're coated in grit that will come off in the water. Plus the shingles themselves physically deteriorate over time. A metal roof is fire-resistant anyway.

Please let me know if you find a good roofing contractor. My neighbor has been looking to replace his roof and can't even get anyone to come look at it, let alone replace it.

I've just had my roof replaced over a month ago by Yama roofing.

How was Yama's? I called them for an estimate but they haven't gotten back to me, I need to pester them again.

Once they got started, it took less than two days to finish. So far, I'm happy with their work.
