Massive IT outage - Expect Outages
#1
Expect Hawaii banks and other financial entities to be having issues today.

It is a CrowdStrike update that has a corrupted file in the update. It mainly affect Windows servers which means all databases running MSSQL can be affected (provided that they were running the CrowdStrike software). Resolution is to disable "tamper protection" Reboot the server, login to safe mode and delete the corrupted file. That seems to fix most servers, but it is time consuming.

I find it very ironic that the company that designs software that is supposed to prevent cyber attacks that could cause worldwide disruption of almost every industry actually causes worldwide disruption of almost every industry because of a faulty file in an update.

Elon removed Crudstrike from all systems.

Yes! Even further ironic that when virtually the entire air transportation industry is shut down, banking, hospitals having to postpone surgeries, 911 services disrupted in various parts of the country, government services disrupted, etc. etc., Facebook and “X” et al, including even little old PunaWeb stay up and running for all of us to bitch and complain and foster vast conspiracies and in general, be today’s connected society!

Right and when we vote(d) Crudstrike will be/was there to make sure that it's the most secure election ever!

No problem.  Crudstrike is full of crud enough for both of them! We will be just fine without them.

WASHINGTON —
U.S. cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has revised and retracted statements it used to buttress claims of Russian hacking during last year's American presidential election campaign. The shift followed a VOA report that the company misrepresented data published by an influential British think tank.
In December, CrowdStrike said it found evidence that Russians hacked into a Ukrainian artillery app, contributing to heavy losses of howitzers in Ukraine's war with pro-Russian separatists.
VOA reported Tuesday that the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), which publishes an annual reference estimating the strength of world armed forces, disavowed the CrowdStrike report and said it had never been contacted by the company.
Ukraine's Ministry of Defense also has stated that the combat losses and hacking never happened.
Some see overblown allegations
CrowdStrike was first to link hacks of Democratic Party computers to Russian actors last year, but some cybersecurity experts have questioned its evidence. The company has come under fire from some Republicans who say charges of Kremlin meddling in the election are overblown.

I doubt that. He says they deleted it, but his claim was made AFTER the updates had happened.. It is possible that most of "X" is running in Linux based systems anyway (remember he hates Bill gates for shorting Tesla) or that they had automatic updates for CloudStrike turned off in the first place. Besides, if they did have a large number of systems running it, removing it is not that simple or that quick. That would also mean they didn't first test the removal on lower lane systems (DEV or UAT) before removing it on PROD as not enough time has elapsed since his announcement.

I doubt that.

He was talking about Tesla and auto supply chains.  I should have added this link below.

Anyhow, back in Hawaii, some flight and DMV disruptions caused, but mostly resolved.
