Hawaiian Air charging more for Hilo/Kona travelers
#1
Looks like Hilo and Kona are getting the brunt of the Hawaiian Airlines price increase.

Makes perfect logical sense. If they don't raise fares, they will go the way of Aloha, ATA and all the others. Facts are facts, fuel prices have gone up and up, and the airlines need to charge that increase to the passengers. If it makes things easier to swallow, mainland airfares, short and long distances, are also going up.

I can certainly understand passing the increases in fuel off to the customer, the problem I am having is that our wages have not kept up with the increase in cost 33% more for food 50% or more in fuel cost increases, and my hubbies last wage increase 4% [V] now just how am I suppose to cover that kind of deficit[?]

We are witnessing the demise of the middle class and there only two directions to go from there, you all do the math

Nobody's income is keeping up with the price of fuel. Which makes me wonder what higher airline prices and reduced flights are doing to the vacation rental business in Puna. The resorts on the Kona side cater to a high end clientel and may be less affected, but I worry that vacation rentals on which a lot of people depend may be hurt as fewer people can afford to get to the Big Island.

Any feedback from people with rentals?

The City Council however seems to be doing quite well, a new large payraise and looking at new digs to celebrate their superior service to humankind. It's only going to cost us Peasants 112M in loose change, heck they have done such a good job we should be happy to give!

If Mesa/Go goes under, I don't see any reason why Hawaiian would have an incentive to keep their "Hawaiian Miles" program going either.

The main reason they started that program was to lure customers from Aloha in the first place.

They will be making far more money off interisland flights then the mainland routes and if they become the only interisland carrier, then it would only make sense to drop unnecessary costs and promotions if they aren't needed to gain ridership.

I'm still irked I can't use any of my old "Aloha Miles".
