Thank you for that, it's one of my favorite songs. I visited downtown NY once on a stopover and got to visit the Empire State Building and experience Broadway before flying back to Blighty. I saw the trade towers when they still existed and experienced all the stuff I had only seen in movies (this was 1992). I also learned what buffalo wings were. It was a special experience.
By the way, I love the "I take tea" at the start of the song. I am not so sure about toast being done on one side, though—I know no one who does that.

I'm not British, but I like my toast done on one side. WahineLead by example

My pleasure. Sting was so young then, like the rest of us. Have you tried it? My Mom used to make toast in the oven, on broil, with butter on it and we would often sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on it. It was wonderful. I remember the texture you speak of. I had completely forgotten and can't wait to get back to our oven. Add this to whatever value this thread may have accrued. Maybe I'll eat some at the park at the bottom of Maku'u.
I wish you all the best.

Hah! I HATE autocorrect! Obviously should be untoasted, not untrusted. That's what happens when I post after a 12 hour shift.
No opinion on crumpets because I have technically never had one. English muffins I prefer toasted (not trusted where just the tallest points are toasted and the rest is still soft. WahineLead by example
If you ever return to the UK, especially in the spring, you must try buttered crumpets. As a kid, I would first eat the soft bottom portion and leave the crunchy top part for the end. But I believe there are several techniques available. I know nothing about English muffins because they never existed in England when I grew up.

I've never been to England but my research indicates that yes they did and do exist in England but they're just called muffins where as the sweet ones are called American muffins there and some other UK areas.
