The Volcanoes Were Nice
#1
Buzzfeed’s A Supposedly Nice Place To Visit That They’ll Never Do Again. They made a list and a coward who signed their screed “Anonymous” said they ain’t coming back to Big Island:
.
#23."The Big Island of Hawaii. I recently went on a trip to the island. So many people rave about the views and the hiking trails past beautiful waterfalls. I was there for two weeks and spent roughly half of my time driving. Any waterfall 'hikes' were more aptly just short walks from the parking lot and up a couple of stairs. The volcanoes were cool, the weather was nice, and the views were okay, but I don’t think I would spend the time or the money to go back."

At least Anonymous had a little bit of sense. S/he didn’t insult Pele.

I once read a review by a guy who went to Volcano Park and said he walked EVERYWHERE and didnʻt see ANY lava. "Total Ripoff!"
Certainty will be the death of us.

Aloha all.

Think when some people go on vacation they forget to pack their brain.

And if tourists stop coming here, what keeps the economy going?

As a tourist, you can get beautiful views, better food, and much more to do elsewhere. When you fly 4000 miles and spend $700/day on accommodations, dining, and taxes, you expect aloha and lava in abundance, just like in the brochure.

Not that any of that applies to me, I can't even afford a staycation and I live here.

They have a somewhat valid, albeit exaggerated, point about the driving requirements here, but "hiking trails past beautiful waterfalls"?
This person could have a reading comprehension problem if they were looking for good hikes on island.
My retort would be to have someone else research and plan their itinerary for the next vacation, where ever that will be.

That was my experience, both as tourist and resident.

Tourism brings all sorts to our Islands. Most are very good, smart and decent people.

Sometimes, "Anonymous" comes:
