Volcano Watch

"it is also completely unnecessary for some long-time and apparently very cliquey PW members to post snark, belittle, or "attack." Why is this allowed?"

M2, respectfully, you did not answer my above question. And I posted your comment, because you stated:

"So… Any comments from this point on that include more than just the facts, such as but not limited to arguments, attacks, complaints, etc, etc, etc will be deleted in their entirety."

Why is it okay, ALLOWED, for some to post attacks?

"What's wrong with you?
You're the one who popped up here and started spewing out your unwanted information."

"Unwanted? Go away? Blah, blah, blah. Hater?"

What's wrong Pat? Those aren't attacks, they are truths. Facts. The way people feel about you.

Wow... Are you trying to fit in, MyManao? Sad. Don't think they are ever going to accept you. But who knows? Maybe with all the focused dislike on me, they will finally start to embrace you. Wink

Please see the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park website for visitor information: https://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm.

Hazards: The eruption has been occurring within a closed area of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. High levels of volcanic gas—primarily water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2)—are the primary hazard of concern, as this hazard can have far-reaching effects downwind. As SO2 is continuously released from the summit during an eruption, it will react in the atmosphere to create the visible haze known as vog (volcanic smog) downwind of Kīlauea. Vog information can be found at https://vog.ivhhn.org/.

Pele's hair, which are strands of volcanic gas often produced by lava fountaining activity, can be carried by the wind. It can sometimes cluster and tangle together on the ground, giving it the appearance of a tumbleweed. The extent of Pele's hair is dependent on lava fountaining activity and current wind conditions. More information about how Pele's hair is formed is available here: https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/hvo/n...and-hawaii. A Frequently Asked Questions document developed for the 2022 Mauna Loa eruption includes information about potential health effects of Pele's hair and is available here: https://vog.ivhhn.org/sites/default/file...n_v1.6.pdf

Hawaiian lava flows generally advance slowly downslope, and during this eruption flows have been confined to Halemaʻumaʻu crater and the southwest side of Kaluapele, Kīlauea's summit caldera. Additional hazards include Pele's hair and other volcanic fragments from lava fountains that can fall on the ground within a few hundred yards (meters) of the eruptive vent(s), or on the western caldera rim downwind of the vent(s). Strong winds may waft lighter particles to greater distances downwind, and wind directions are variable. Residents and visitors should minimize exposure to these volcanic particles, which can cause skin and eye irritation.

Other significant hazards also remain around Kīlauea caldera from Halemaʻumaʻu crater wall instability, ground cracking, and rockfalls that can be enhanced by earthquakes within the area closed to the public. This underscores the extremely hazardous nature of Kīlauea's caldera rim surrounding Halemaʻumaʻu crater, an area that has been closed to the public since late 2007.

For discussion of Kīlauea hazards, please see: https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/hawai...ry/hazards.

What is wrong with some of you? So toxic.

What's toxic are fearmongers such as yourself who post stuff to attract attention (and views) but are unable to back up anything they say. They'll continue to tell us how bad things are and then blame everyone else for the nonsense they post because, in their mind, it's so surprising no one believes them. You can't back up anything you say, so try to distract, obfuscate, and do anything possible not to defend your own opinions, posts, or whatever nonsense you spew.

I've not been toxic until now because I've given you so many chances to explain yourself regarding posts in this thread, and you still won't do it. I don't know what's happening in your head, but you've exposed yourself in this thread. You make stuff up and post it here and then complain when others catch you out. Then you take no responsibility and blame others. You've brought all this on yourself, yet you still don't get it.

People don't like charlatans, but that's who you are.

All I did was post a thread about the Volcan Watch. It isn't dramatic. It isn't "fear mongering." It's just info. Unless you think the U.S.G.S. and the Hawaii Civil Defense are also "fear mongers" and "charlatans."

For heaven's sake.

And aside from posting LINKS where you are able to find and read info (MORE info that will educate as well as "back up" my statements) what more do you want? Blood? Because it sure seems as though some of you are circling with your pitch forks and torches.

Kilauea blows up from time to time. It's part of living in the island. And talking about it is no more "fear mongering" than talking about earthquakes and rifts in California, or tornadoes in Ohio, or sinkholes in Pennsylvania, or shore erosion and collapsing buildings in Florida. Talking about the volcano is just that. It's just INFO.

Patricia

There was already a post about the current volcanic activity.

You didn't need to make a separate post which shines the light on your ego.
You might want to sign up with civil defense. You don't need to post warnings on Punatalk.

Thank you, Obie. I am signed up with Civil Defense. Maybe some aren't.

Also, your post on "Roads..." There is already a post on Roads, as in roads are easements...

Patricia, why did you post "orange alert" with no context? It's for aviators. An orange alert is posted every time Kilauea erupts until USGS determines the eruption does not affect aircraft flying nearby. Your original post said there's a volcano watch with a picture of what the various codes mean. Still, it did not provide context, mention a Civil Defense message, or link to another thread that already included a post that Kilauea had started erupting again. I repeatedly asked why you posted about an orange watch, and you avoided answering the question. All I can surmise is that you are an attention-seeker, an occasional bullshitter, and someone who thinks they know better than others even when you don't and doesn't know when to shut up or stop digging that hole.

Kilauea has started to erupt yet again.

Once again, just to please Patricia:

----------

KILAUEA (VNUM #332010)
19°25'16" N 155°17'13" W, Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

-----------

To quote someone:

"We are now on volcano watch. Only one more level to go..."

"Orange watch."

Please stay safe, everyone. There's only one level to go. For those concerned, I've taken my oranges into a safe spot, and they're just fine, although a little shaken.

"Orange watch."

Lady Tang and I thank you Tom for clarifying what that is.  We thought it may be some new resistance movement.
I wish you all the best.
