time for Punaweb to be about Puna again.
As Steve Matin would say “well excuuuuse meee.” For not making it more clear that Tulsi was the former rep for Puna, who voted illegally in Hawaii, without a Hawaii drivers license for her photo ID…
Does seem like a Hawaii related problem, that’s all.

Texas-issued personal identification certificate (your I.D. card address must match your principal residence address)
--------
One can get a Texas ID card without having a Texas drivers license and one can get a Hawaii ID card without having a Hawaii license. A person can also have ID cards from multiple states, listing their address from each state.

Always this stupid argument about mythical illegals voting vs citizens too addled to get an ID. Personally I think if you can't figure out how to get an ID you probably shouldn't be voting. But imagine if there were a third way, where everything from birth certificates to the actual IDs themselves were digital, and getting an ID just meant loading an app and taking a few pictures. Sliding scale for the fee.
TL;DR: make it cheaper and easier to get an ID, and then require an ID. Then no one can make up stuff about illegals voting any more.

Only one of them can be "REAL".
Also, "REAL ID" asserts "lawful presence", not "citizenship".

One party can't win unless they stifle the vote.. seriously, when was the last time the repugs won a fair election? Not in our lifetime. The idiots couldn't win for dog catcher without a bunch of pilikia..
So again.. why do we let them participate in civil society? They are uneducated losers who impose their twisted sick morals by criminalizing everyone that doesn't lick their god's ass.
I feel so fortunate to have lived my life in democratically run states. I know Hawaii, as a government, is primitive, under developed for our modern age, and our old timers cling to their power just like any other old timer.. but OMG the alternative, where their only hope is to treat anyone unlike themselves with hostility and distain, is horrifying. Imagine having to live with the slave owner's spirit alive and well in some southern nightmare.
As to Ed Case's age and all that.. I think it's simple.. no man shall impose laws on another unless they too shall live to experience the consequences of said law. And, statistically, Ed's too old. Sure, keep the codgers around.. with emeritus status.. but otherwise it's more compassionate to help them see the need to go off into the sunset with their loved ones.. just think of all the opportunities Joe missed to hang on the lanai and enjoy those fleeting moments with his sweetheart because of his illusions of grandeur..
So yeah, keep the blood young.. flowing.. but I also think in order to be a politician one should have to divest themselves of ALL their financial endeavors.. no stocks, no business interests.. and lobbyists should be outlawed.

The last time I renewed my drivers license I went online, looked at the list of required documents, and brought everything necessary to the Pāhoa station. The woman there said I was missing documentation. I went back home, checked the list, and confirmed I had everything required. For good measure, I then went to my safe deposit box and picked up a bunch of other stuff - - for backup. I drove to Hilo station, gave them the same documents I took into Pahoa, and got my license without a problem.
I should have printed out the DMV list of required documents and brought it with me, but even that would have been subject to the interpretation of the person behind the counter, which was the real problem. Mine was simple, imagine a name change or trans situation, or a different type of (racist?) DMV worker to deal with, and the next closest place to get a license is 90 miles away…

Rando for President! How easy is that?
Please just make sure that the ID is only issued to confirmed citizens (like the bill does).
Then we can all go back to pretending that no one else will ever attempt to vote.
Circling back to the whole thread thing:
Can I please get an "amen" that 72 is right about the perfect age to be a Hawaii lawmaker and provide a steady hand?

Tang - OK, because it sounded like you were saying you think he's too old when you said, "Surely we have enough younger workers to better fulfill this one job?"
So this thread is about the challenges of a super-aged population in Hawaii and whether there are enough younger workers to fill the jobs needed as people age out. Some of those jobs include political ones, like Ed Case's.
Tang - Oh boy, The Yakster gets very excited when folks say "they".
Guilty as charged - big fan of pronouns and their proper use. As those super-aged socialist hippies like to say "I am he (John 18:6), as you are he, as you are me, and we are all together." (John/Paul 1967:11-24) He, she, they, them - whatever gets you through the night, it's all right.
randomq - make it cheaper and easier to get an ID, and then require an ID.
In a country with a history of using poll taxes (including here in Hawaii), sometimes as a selective barrier to voting, any required fee that restricts people from casting a vote is both undemocratic and possibly unconstitutional (per the 24th Amendment for those that still care about such things).
Every state has a free process for registering to vote, and research has shown that votes cast by ineligible voters are exceedingly rare, so this ID requirement is a supposed fix prompted by trying to appease unsupported paranoid delusions (like the tampered voting machines, and bamboo paper ballots, and on and on, without end).
As Edge said "the fraudulent voter is a boogie man for conservative tv horror news. Scary, but if you check the statistics in the closet or under the bed there’s nothing there." But what if the boogie man is invisible? Or able to shape shift into a gecko? Or made entirely of shrimp and able to carve amazing pieces of art to hide behind?
All the while ignoring very real, sworn under oath, primary evidence of the residence of an illegal voter - Tulsi, Tulsi, Tulsi! Talk about cursed idols... (sorry, struggling to find Hawaii references for the super-aged ;)

Methinks, no one over 65, at the time of being sworn in for office, should be qualified to be a political candidate..
Like I said, create an emeritus status for old advisers, but stop with the notion of politicians being viable into old age.. we don't let anyone else go on like that.. why should we our political leaders?
