I was once told my a wise old man that "Not all of Hawaii smells like plumeria".
Regarding the personal attacks and overall nastiness read in some of the threads , I believe we need not to respond, in any form or fashion, to these individuals.
When it was stated that this forum was headed toward another "Putzville" , at first , since I am still a newbie, I really didn't get it. But boy do I get it now.
This is such a truly great forum for everything Puna, and it also answers so many questions for those currently living or moving here.
So let the "haters of everything" spew their filth.
We won't respond.

Probably a good thing all of Hawaii doesn't smell like plumeria. A wise old auntie told me once not to give plumeria lei because those are "graveyard flowers" and some folks thing you are ill wishing them if you give them plumeria lei. Fortunately, tuber rose smells good, too.
Ain't it great having a bazillion different viewpoints? Sure can widen our world!

I understand where Greg is coming from. I to have commented on the change this forum have gone through in the last several months. It IS getting unfriendly like another forum that most of us have visited in the past. I got some flack about my comments in the past. It seems if your not “politically correct” in your statements you get flamed. There just isn’t the tolerance here that there used to be. I have been critical of some about coming here and wanting to change things from what they are (sorry Glen) to the way they are where they come from. I also consider John Rabi, ABR,CM,CRB,FHS,PB, a good friend and don’t understand why some, after all the time he has posted, and has always added his achievements to his name along with what does is now being flamed for that! Geez John did you P*** someone off or what?!
These are just my humble thoughts and feelings on the subject. I guess you can go ahead and jump on me for a while and take some of the heat off John! 
Maybe someone will start another Punaweb type forum that keeps it simple and friendly without all the nit picking. Wouldn’t that be refreshing?

One persons perfume is another person’s poop and vise versa. Perhaps if we all respect and welcome the right for everyone to express their diverse view points and opinion and respond with our own, we can both grow and help others change their view points as well.

The wide variety of opinions and useful information on this forum are what I find most attractive about it. If I disagree with someone, I try to be diplomatic about responding or just shrug it off. It would be great if everyone could be nice all the time, but this is a collection of human beings, and humans ain't nice all the time. Yes, some folks take political correctness to excessive lengths. I also don't think it is fair to automatically flame someone for suggesting that we change some things in Hawaii. Some things NEED to change for it to remain paradise. Balance is the key, and personal attacks are not the best way to get to a better place.
I remain a devoted member of the forum and don't see that changing. Let's get along.

Democracy v. a Police State. I choose Democracy and free speech. In a free society people go too far sometimes --and then usually regret it. As a wise judge once said, free speech doesn't mean you can yell "fire" in a crowded theatre when there is no fire. It is also not wise to "flame" someone. However, I prefer the occasional flame, nonesense, strong but unfounded opinions to sterility, censorship and the chill that comes when you have to watch every word you say lest someone takes those words from you.
With censorship and totalatarianism comes order, but I think we have it right here. Self-policing --and apologies if necessary--are better than sending conversations that turn sour down the memory hole. I understand the other point of view, but I have to say, one thing that drew me to Puna was thise forum. It is a wild and woolly bunch --liberals, conservatives, those who wouldn't change a hair on Hawaii's head, and those who want to shave her bald and send her to rehab.
It's all good. And it is all very, very Puna.

My initial statement seems to be changing into another topic, so let me re-frame my viewpoint.
I know we all love alternate points of view, personally I value all opinions, but my concern is with the personal attacks and name calling.
The short time I have been a member , the information I have collected from reading responses is immeasurable , from building, to subdivisions, and to growth.
Alternate viewpoints are great, they have made this country what it is today.
But things have taken a nasty turn with recent attacks by a member(s).
Let's keep up the varying thoughts, the help, the assistance , but try to refrain from personal attacks.

I can jump onboard with everything said on this thread. My mother used to say, "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all."
She also told me that that "thing" would fall off if I didn't stop playing with it.

Plumerias are not native so not Hawaiian but a flower that is accepted in Hawaii. Go figure.
