Yah some of your post was boring but you hit on a topic that was somewhere on another thread. Did we say sovereignty meant their would be Kings and Queens? Hmmm... I think if we on our own proclaimed our sovereignty in what ever way it would have to be a ruling under kupuna, makua, and maybe even educated `Opio in each Ahupua`a. That's my idea anyway. Have you ever thought about the fact that their are Hawaiians who have professional occupations as doctors, lawyers, police, rangers etc... You think all those educated people can't figure out how to run a nation separate from America. Of course, America is not going to give Hawaii up, and why should we expect that to be part of our sovereignty. Now the ceded and Hawaiian lands are occupied in my eyes and the Hawaiian Kingdom is still alive. but we have evolved and don't expect us to give up our computers, cars, cell phones etc... cause that will never happen.
I'm not trying to be toney with you just telling you how I see it.
By the way... here is a link to the apology bill: http://www.hookele.com/non-hawaiians/apology.html
The U.S. already admitted to the wrong doing on the U.S.'s behalf.
The Hawaiians where different from the Indians in a sense that they had treaties and embassys all over the world. The treaty of "friendship" was broken by America. This is unfortunate cause if their was a "friendship" between America and the Hawaiian Kingdom, things could have been different. America "might" have been welcomed here instead of having to claim their occupation of Hawaii through a resolution.
America acted on heresay, from a group of "foreign" businessmen who were capitalist and got away with treason on a Kingdom and the illegal imprisonment of a Queen, who did not want bloodshed on her people. This was against the will of the Native Hawaiian people which is clearly stated in the Apology bill.
In 1897 many Native Hawaiians along with non Hawaiians, signed a petition against the annexation here is proof that Native Hawaiians and our friends who were non Native shows that they were against annexation. http://www.archives.gov/education/lesson...-petition/
My ancestors signatures are on this document.
The apology bill's only value to Native Hawaiians and Hawaiian Kingdoms subjects is it validates the fact that the so called illegal overthrow happened. Of course, the makers of the bill have their disclaimer at the end. In other words sorry but we are not giving you restitution for our wrong. Funny how America works.
