All the recent talk of Gods, Aliens and the especially heavy use of the word "THEY" made me think of the 1988 classic John Carpenter's movie "THEY LIVE"
While a never before seen watch or a re-watch for the 100th time, its a sure fire classic. Please note, it goes very well with a few bites of the Snoop Dog/Martha Stewart freshly baked brownie recipe, and/or, a $18.00 liter bottle of J. Hara vodka.
THEY said so.

Wow, blatant Maher/Trump/Pizzagate baitin is bypassed (recommending a movie with a 4.3 IMDB score, have you no decency at all sir? ;) and an anti-capitalist cult classic being offered by a Vegas-loving lawyer - what a wild and unpredictable Punaweb we have these days!
To continue the They theme, I'll recommend Behind the Curve (currently available officially on Amazon and Tubi, unofficially on Youtube) from back in 2018 that documents the rise of the Flat Earth movement. Bypassing much of the obvious debunking exercises, it looks more at the role these heterodox beliefs serve in their community and how they deal with evidence, even self-gathered, that contradicts their beliefs. Has some interesting challenges for the viewer about "Flat Earth"-like beliefs that everyone possesses but may not recognize.

Yes, being dealt a hand like that in Vegas would have been a BIG winner! "They" even said so!
I sure do miss Bill's annual Maui New Years show. Attended for many many years!
And speaking of a little Maher/Trump/Pizzagate baitin maybe with a little less pizza, but if by chance you may NOT have heard, the affable Bill had dinner, a few months ago, along with, nonetheless, Kid Rock and Dana White, but also with the Numero Uno himself. In the Oval and the WH. Imagine that. What is the world coming to?
Quite astounding to say the least, but he did file a very interesting book report on it all. In order to maintain separation of church and state, I won't directly embed the video or link it, but if you are interested, while enjoying a semi sunny afternoon here in Puna, search for "Mr. Maher Goes to Washington" on the YouTubes! It is well worth the watch no matter your views.

Anyone catch the Niu Festival in Hilo last weekend and see the screening of Niu Forever at the Palace? Looks like there might be future screenings so wanted to see if any Palace-frequenting folk had thoughts on it. Thanks!

Well-attended. The weather took mercy. The film screening was sold out and the organizer, Misty Carter was very pleased. They hope to do it again next year at a another location.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Thanks for the info kalianna - glad it was a success. Looks like the next screening is in Wai'anae, which is a bit of a drive, so have to wait for its return, maybe at the Honoka'a People's Theatre or Mainstreet Pahoa's Outdoor Summer Film Festival (one can dream, right :)

The always eclectic visual and musical artists of the band Gorillaz, maybe best known for their 2001 song " Clint Eastwood", showed up to SNL for their first time last night in high style with their new track " The Moon Cave" off their 10th album The Mountain. The heady mix of the album and song's deep themes, moody visuals, and wide instrument range, including sitars, xylophones, keytars, bamboo flutes, trumpets, drums, and more, should demonstrate they fit in Puna and Punaweb quite well.
But this is the movie thread right? Gotcha covered fam - the band released for free the entirety of their 2019 documentary Gorillaz: Reject False Icons covering the making of their albums Humanz, and The Now Now, and their related world tour.
If you ever want to see the vibrant and joyous energy possible from diverse and talented people working together in collaboration, check out the new song and the documentary. Puna, and Punaweb, would do well to recognize the positive vibes and mutual support possible if we choose to see and be Humanz in The Now Now.
"Spread it all 'round, from the small town
To the empires, finna fall down
From the energy that brung the wall down
Or the mothership gon' call down like Orson
The heat gon' be scorching
The beat gon' need voices"

“If I had legs I’d kick you”. It’s somewhat intense, with a few moments of comic relief. Not sure it deserves to be considered a comedy, however. Rose Byrne is fantastic. I think she won a golden globe for her performance. Her therapist is played by Conan O’Brien. I also enjoyed the character played by asap rocky.

As a partial reply about Free Streaming options (because there's options, there's always options to choose what your money supports and what it doesn't), I wanted to highlight Kanopy which is free if you have a library card or university ID. Very much a quality over quantity source, some of their Hawai'i related options include:
Sharks of Hawai'i - "Discover surprising facts about the sharks that call the warm waters near Hawaii’s islands their home."
Pidgin: The Voice of Hawai'i - "What if you are made to feel ashamed when you speak your “mother tongue” or ridiculed because of your accent?"
Railroading Paradise: Environmental Preservation vs. New Housing in Hawaii - "Railroading Paradise chronicles the bitter tug-of-war between efforts to preserve O‘ahu and pressures for new housing and growth"
Mele Murals - "A documentary about the transformative power of art through the unlikely union of graffiti and ancient Hawaiian culture." (Much of it takes place at Kanu O Ka 'Aina Charter School in Waimea)
and many more about the volcanoes, surfing, nisei soldiers of WWII, Hawaiian renaissance, ukuleles, Maui wildfires, farming, and so forth. Also has many more mainstream and foreign movies and documentaries worth checking out IMHO.
