Upgrade? And other Hi-Tech Scams
#61
Yak: I find it helps to be informed when forming an opinion... ... (extra ellipsis for emphasis
Good! See next response.

Yak: Yeah, and imagine the kind of people, even those in Puna, that give them money, knowing all this? ... However section 230 wasn't at play here as the cases aren't about the site content but the features of the sites themselves - algorithmic feeds, infinite scroll, image filters, etc... basically many of the items highlighted in The Social Dilemma back in 2020 which used the framework developed by, oh look, Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, who were at the trials.
https://centerforhumanetechnology.substa...a-big-deal
Yeah. Good thing the American taxpayer is giving them billions of dollars to send 4 people to circle the moon. But yeah, my 40.00 bucks a month for my new Starlink is just beyond the pale. As for section 230, was indeed at play. Big time. Was used as the initial defense.  Meta and Google just lost a landmark social media addiction case. A tech law expert explains the fallout
A little snip for ya:

"The companies centered part of their defense on Section 230 protections, arguing they cannot be held liable for content posted on their platforms."
"However, the judge instructed the jury that the way content is delivered is a separate consideration to what the content is. This limited Meta and Google’s ability to rely on Section 230 protections."
So maybe not as informed as you thought you were when making your opinion?

Yak: Gotcha - so Fuk ICE and Fuk da CBP - sounds like protest sign slogans, have see if they show up in Hilo / Kona.
I'd say that's a safe bet to see a few. You should see the signs Barney made. Wow, that dude is hell bent thats for sure!

Yak: Some interesting additions being tacked onto your post in the wee hours... Just figured if you have complaints you might want to do something about them, other than whinge online. I'd suggest there is joy to be found in the struggle for good causes.
I do get a chuckle at the number of posters who seemingly are able to consistently question how much time I spend making a post. But noting my wee hour additions kind of means you have clearly spent an inordinate amount of time following me. I am wondering if maybe I am being stalked? I also see, by your posts, that you find whining online to be a significant benefit to you instead of doing something about it. Right? Good for the goose, good for the gander thing? Projection?

Yak: The neat thing about anarchism is that it's all about direct action and just getting things done locally. So while I find it useful to try and help steer the lumbering behemoth that is the modern bureaucratic state through talking to my reps, tracking and testifying for legislation, raising awareness and protesting, etc,  anarchism just cuts through all that and looks to immediately address material conditions and people's needs.
WOW! You sure do carry a big load on your shoulders! Anarchy away!

Yak: Build your housing, and help your neighbors build theirs, put together your solar and catchment systems, and help your neighbors do the same. Share knowledge and exchange fruits, veggies, livestock, and labor outside of any monetary framework and somehow people get education, housing, food, water, and electricity regardless of what the politicians do or don't do. Puna make so much of this so easy to do it's like second nature for many of us here.
Since I have done, do and will continue to do the same things, I can't possibly disagree with you here!

Yak: "What is real? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain." and so forth. I'd recommend some time with Simulacra and Simulation if you really want to get at the insanity of cryptocurrencies and prediction markets that are driving reality - "The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory ... today it is the territory whose shreds slowly rot across the extent of the map. It is the real, and not the map, whose vestiges persist here and there in the deserts that are no longer those of the Empire, but ours. The desert of the real itself."
Gobbledygook. No response offered.

Yak: For lawyer, your language use and interpretation is either really sloppy and imprecise, or intentionally in bad faith. There are a group of people born 1945-1964 which have been termed Baby Boomers, or Boomers for short. If you prefer the label the "Me Generation" given by some of of your parents writers, that works too. So when I say "As for "the boomers", they all might want to wake up a bit and really listen to what others are saying" I'm broadly addressing, hey all you in the back of the room, can you hear what is being said (we like Roy, we like Roy  Same goes for " ethical reasoning" is "rare in the boomers these days" - that's the opposite of saying ALL boomers, that's trying to distinguish them by their capacities.
In addition to being just more gobbledygook, what possible knowledge, education or experience would you have in determining "lawyer speak?" Besides, painting a group of people broadly for any method of grouping is such a common idiom meaning to describe an entire group using overgeneralized, sweeping statements, often ignoring individual differences and specific details. It typically implies unfairly lumping people together, often with negative connotations based on political, social, or age-related stereotypes, rather than treating them as individuals.

Yak: Lite beer still leads to heart and liver disease, and Marlboros of all types cause lung cancer, just as all fossil fuels cause climate change. Humanity has gotta kick the habit before it's too late.
Can't disagree at all. The whole point is that the world is not going to go from fossil fuel to 100% pure clean energy overnight. Baby steps. Going from belching tons of carbon to pounds of carbon, while not ideal, is still better. Until that "miracle cure" just starts one Monday morning.

Yak: If you mean public support you'd be wrong, if you mean a paycheck then you'd be right. As for bootlegged music video's that's not a current category on the media server, but could be useful addition to the mesh matrix, I mean network. Plenty of Puna/web related items possible - Video Killed the Radio Star, She Blinded Me With Science, Welcome to the Jungle, Sledgehammer, Don't Come Around Here No More - anyone got requests?
I figured you would be sucking the taxpayer sap's teat! No requests from me, however.

Yak: So again, there are many possibilities in that list - you keep singling out those two why? As for the other posters, I already knew what one of them had posted years ago so I was just making them re-aware of what has been said.
Well, I did not respond to the other possibilities, outside of being happy (see below) in that list as none of it pertains to me. Including being drunk or stoned.

Yak: Then don't? Punaweb participation is optional you know.
Same goes for you!

Yak: Seems like you have issues to take up with MyManao, leilanidude, and TomK. There are no damsels in distress on Punaweb, just individuals tossing words back and forth.
Never been a damsel in distress. I do find it comical to be honest. Just like the addiction of carbon belching, the male chauvinist seemingly never goes away either.

Yak: (as she proceeds to write a polemic on brevity)
Again, that projection from ya Yak! But I know, its OK for you, just not for me!

Yak: Often times you clearly don't know - see the Section 230 comment above. Again, it's not all or nothing, nothing is, regardless of your black and white, "you said ALL" interpretations.
See reply and posted link about Section 230 above. You're the one who has respectively said ALL. Reverse uno trick again?

Yak: It may help to remember that I returned to not just reading but posting on Punaweb (just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!  because of the Hawaii Decarbonization Settlement 2045 thread, in which some posters were attacking the kids as disingenuous (terracore), or not living up to impossible arbitrary standards (Tang), or making excuses for highly consumptive personal behavior (you). So dozens of pages spent trying to convince people that fossil fuels in all forms are bad, and that there are other options readily available, that aren't techno-hopium. Through-out that it was clear that there are many things you and others don't understand about the topic, which is fine, as long as their willing to learn and not just make excuses to protect one's priors.
Glad you came back. In hindsight, I probably should have never gone to school, never taken a job that required me to fly all over the place belching carbon left and right, and instead, just been a hippy (the OG boomer hippy) and been a homeless bum when some irate city kicked me out and sent to Hilo on a one way ticket, where I could have wheeled my suitcase to the SNAP office and walked out with my new EBT card and lived off the other saps who work and pay taxes. And instead of buying the properties we now own in the Acres, I could have just squatted there and hope no one called the SWAT Team on me!

Yak: You're grinding axes with the wrong people - take it up with them?
Who is grinding axes? Just tried to help randomq from not become the butt of some agitated poster who can't stand the fact that I post on PunaWeb, no matter what I say.

Yak: You sure don't seem to like Punaweb or Punawebbers do you... Just hate posting at this point?
Who said I don't like PunaWeb or PunaWebbers? Outside of you. As for "hate posting," well what do you expect from me? I am a boomer after all. Remember? But then, what specifically am I "hate posting" about?

Yak: That's the benefit of Puna, that things are slow to change, and Pele/volcanic eruptions puts limits on all development (sorry kalakoa). For anyone who want's "modernity", mainland sprawl is that away ---> (orient your screen as needed)
Amen to that! When I moved here in 1987, I knew the roads in the Acres sucked. I have not spent one second of my time trying to get paved roads. The ones demanding change are the ones who came here, knowing what Puna was, but then want to instill their vision. I loved Puna the first day I set foot in it, and I love it to this very minute!

Protests welcome all those willing to show up and do the work, regardless if they have two legs or four, or are "happy, sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, stoned or simultaneously watching Sponge Bob." Much like Punaweb, they're cool that way.
Well, while not being "...sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, stoned or simultaneously watching Sponge Bob," I am quite happy! Very happy indeed. But, being really clear, I do love that Sponge Bob!

Now, off to get ready to drive over to Kona, in my hybrid EV, along with my husband and Barney, while doing some shopping at the Costco, then to the airport to pick up the visiting family, a nice late lunch and then off the No Kings Protest. Sad however, that I could not get my hair dyed purple and no nose ring, but, got to sacrifice for the common good now, right?

Oh, any updates on the upgrade?? Asking "for a friend!"

She says.. you sure do know how to be verbose! Much better than I ever could be..! And Yak observes.. As she proceeds to write a polemic on brevity..

Yak further observes.. Seems like you have issues to take up with MyManao, leilanidude, and TomK. There are no damsels in distress on Punaweb, just individuals tossing words back and forth.

And I'll reply.. She has problems with anyone willing to point out she's a lot of hot air looking for an excuse to vent. Mindless gibberish. Seriously.. nothing but knee jerk reactions to whatever the last guy/gal said. She doesn't start threads, doesn't have real ideas, no morals to speak of,  just highjacks other people's ideas to fill hours and hours of every day because she has nothing else to do with her life. Ie, her nick name, Crissy Snow. As to her professional background? I doubt any lawyer would ever be as unprofessionally jerked around by their own emotional distain to waste their life away here as she does. A secretary? A paralegal? Maybe. But not a full on practicing lawyer. I think we, at least most of us, can discern the difference between the real deal and just another brand of snake oil.

And btw, anecdotally, now coming up on having worked, am working, with an large international law firm's IP (Intellectual Property) division on a very lengthy patent application, to be followed in due time with the necessary Trademark and copyright claims, I can say, in my experience, a person of her temperament would never find employment with a profession concern in the field. She's demonstrated here, time and time again, that she's unqualified.
Or so says my "friend"

And of course you will reply!

Whatever you say MyManao. Your record on truth telling and anecdotes is outstanding! And you say everything with not one ounce of agitation or emotional disdain! Impressive! And your claim of me not starting threads while you comment on the thread I started is even equally impressive. I am also impressed with your ability to determine a person's occupation.

In closing, I offer this quote:

A friend? You've "asked for a friend" at least 7 or 8 times already. So, dear, who is this friend of yours? Seriously, your left hand or your right?

I'm asking for a friend.

ETA: I am also doubly impressed that you are working "with an large international law firm's IP (Intellectual Property) division on a very lengthy patent application" that on another thread you said you had "passed the two year mark in dealing with the attorneys on a patent application" when you consider that any large, competent, top tier IP/Patent/Copyright law firm that works on an international level is billing - on the low end $1,200 to $1,500 an hour to a high end of $3,000 to $4,000 an hour.

Yak: Just hate posting at this point?
Would you say that the post I am replying to here is this hate posting you were discussing?

Hey kalakoa! How's the madland treating you? What irl upgrades they got out there compared to your old always-a-drive-to-Hilo stomping grounds?

Good point - my reply to HJ moved here.

Gotta make space to hear about kalakoa's upgrades

I see this thread, as they all do, has degraded into the bicker board.

My question is about the original post. Is this the new Punaweb format? Is there a fix on the way to get it back to "normal"?

Excellent question Chas!

I have a suggestion:

Chas,
The current format of Punaweb is temporary.  There is someone working on correcting the software, with the intention of returning the look and functionality to what it was.  It’s taking awhile, but keep checking back.

God willing, this is all part of the process of implementing Kalianna's 3 post per day solution. If we didn't realize how badly her wisdom was needed before the current formatting issue, the ongoing shenanigans of the usual suspects -  while the "normies" politely stayed out of the way, should provide the ultimate clarity. Hopes and prayers.

PS: also praying for the 500 word post limit and 15 minute time limit to edit.

Post#3 for 3/29/2025  Have a great rest of your Sunday, Punaweb.
