I think it's probably because of the mindset of people who shop Costco.
I have been to 5 auto parts stores in the last 2 days looking for sae 50 engine oil for my International truck manual transmission.
I didn't notice any empty shelves. Straight sae 50 is not something most people or vehicles would have a use for.
I ordered PennGrade 1 High Performance Motor Oil 71150 from Summit Racing last night about 6 and had enough purchases to qualify for free shipping. It's out for delivery right now.

However, gas at Safeway was $4.79!!! Absolutely shocked...and disgusted. Almost a dollar less per gallon than here?
We are getting sooooo screwed on this side of the island.

Well, Safeway Kona is trying to compete with Costco on that side. Costco's price today is $5.14 and Safeway's is also $5.14 per GasBuddy. Safeway is at $5.39 in Hilo so not too far off but no one in Hilo seems to want to compete. I drove past Minit Stop in Laupahoehoe yesterday and it is $6.02. Looking at a few news sources today and things are likely to get worse.
