I did a search but couldn't find the post about goats. Our experience is - they're cheap to buy, easy to raise, fast to eating size, and super good barbequed. (especially the ribs)
Sometimes they become pets and then you tend to have them around a long time. Here's a post on our blog of an old "Billy" I had as a young kid. He was almost as much fun as "byrd" my almost blind horse. P.S. - I never shot my eye out......or Byrd's.

If anyone comes across a doe goat I would be interested. I have a fenced pen already and I have been looking for a while. The only goats I have come across are bucks. I check Dells and the paper but no luck. I was hoping since spring is near someone will want to sell a doe kid. I guess everyone wants the females for milk like I do.

The lady at jungle love in Pahoa had some baby goats awhile back but they were like 125.00!

I have two pregnant does. I think the kids are due in a couple of months.
These are Dwarf Nigerian goats, pure bred. They cost in the $200 to $300 range. Keep checking Dells if you want an inexpensive milk goat. I see ads there fairly often.

I have some friends with Nubian goats, they generally have extras after they all have kids. I'll be seeing them in a couple of days and I'll ask if they have any extras and how much they charge for them. Sometimes they have extra chickens, too.

Mahalo for the information. I have found two doe goats. They are so cute. I went to a ranch on saddle road to get them. They are Toggonburg/nubien. Good milking goats. I will be needing a stud around Oct/Nov. I hope that wont be hard to find. This is my first time with goats. I'm in HPP does anyone know what poisonous weeds/plants to look out for? There are so many different kinds of weeds. I know milkweed is poisonous but I tried to compare from a photo of milkweed but I can't tell. Will the goats naturally stay away from posionous plants or will they eat whatever is in front of them?

I'm looking to buy two goats, male & female. From reading this string, I gather that there are several types of goats available on the Big Isle. What breed of goat should I get if I have one acre of land and I need these goats to eat my grass so I don't have to mow. I want to name them "John Deere" and "New Holland", "New Hollie" for short.

Crizzy, if you name the one "John Deere", it might get a species complex (antler envy?). What about "Lawn Boy"?

Crizzy,
There are several different types of goats. You can either get a goat that is best for milk or meat depending on what you plan to do with it. Goat are a lot higher maintainence then a dog. If you just want them for grazing I would suggest you get either whethers. They are male goats that have been castrated. You really do not want one of each sex. Unless you can separate them. You will need a good fence. They like to get into trouble by eating you prized trees or garden. I would suggest checking out this link:
