It seems many people are upset by the constant barrage of aircraft overflights over private property. There is strength in numbers to change us from victims to those who get to enjoy their peace and quiet.First of all, private property owners own their airspace. So when an aircraft zooms overhead it is like a stranger walking through your living room!!! In fact, the National park charges these aircrafts for entry into Park airspce. Also, the noise makes us feel like we live at an airport and are under seige. It can cause post tramatic stress disorder. It disturbs animals too. Also, the safety issue. These aircraft are flown constantly and there were two crashes last month alone which had fatalities. That could be in our yard. They fly below the accepted altitude as well.Plus there is a corridor for commercial flights, called the Nelson corridor, where they are suppose to fly. Also, they invade our privacy because they are video taping their flights. The FAA wants the numbers off the aircraft in order to take action. That is difficult at best. The only way to change that is through Congress.Plus, the FAA investigaters are friends with all the pilots.People need to come together to resolve this issue. Most of us feel helpless on this matter due to the lack of cooperation by the FAA.But we need to stand together and stop tolerating these revolting violations of our serenity.Hope to hear from everyone soon.....

So what do we do? My eyes aren't good enough (or fast enough) to make out the numerals. I've flipped them off,(green harvest) a couple of times, that sure makes for an interesting day!

Go to the airport and write down the numbers there! These companies have only a handful of helicopters and small planes.

I have been to the airport and wrote down the numbers. You have to have the right chopper at the right time. You have to match their schedule.Once I did get the number of a Green Harvest chopper;reported it to FAA.They said there was no such number. The corruption never ceases to amaze me.I purchased a digital recorder to video these guys and their violations.I plan to send them to my Congressional Rep. If everyone complains then they will know it is a hot topic with the population. If everyone is silent then nothing will be done. The squeaky wheel gets he oil.We must be persistant and consistant.Perhaps a petition will help too. There is always a class action law suit to consider as well. Please let me know your thoughts , ideas and comments.....signed frustrated !!!

This topic comes up again and again, but the simplest solution that my friend Roberta in HA did was spray a 4 letter word followed by "you" on her roof. The tourist helicopters stopped using her roof/house as a turn marker.
Getting the N numbers is good too, and reporting to FAA. But they typically don't do much as Thunderfoot seems to have found out.

I know all the talk is about choppers here. But if you saw an airplane invade your Puna airspace last week....it was probably me! Sorry! My boy was late for school, and I knew traffic would be terrible at that time on the 130 Kea'au bound..

I hate to be the safety monitor here, but you really shouldn't have your boy blocking your field of vision like that.
Next time, have him hang onto the landing gear.

I appreciate everyone commenting, and even the jokes.I did try the four letter word on my roof, but I guess the extra attraction for them to me is that I have four bison and horses for them to rubber neck at.Running around in your birthday suit doesn't deter them either. The situation if frustrating. All joking aside,it feels as if I am under seige here. Also, there can be restoration of serenity and privacy if people get togehter and do something about it.It is wrong for commercial (for profit) companies to finacially benefit at the expense of our private airspace.

When you get the N numbers go to the flight school or aviation company and talk to their management. Suggest that from now on each and every time they fly over, you will report them. File with the DCCA, and anywhere else you can think of.... against the company that is flying. Hit the wallet hard! They'll stop then.
Post the names of the companies on many forums. Fight back! (legally please!!)
