HPP Robbery
#61
<<....What she said (April)

I didn't want to write a long post on this. So lets just say that I agree with just about every thing thats been posted here.

Let me add.. that when our forefathers founded this Country they were concerned about capitalism,, or lets say capitalism left un-checked.

Fast forward to the last 6 years and we can get a glimpse of their (our founding fathers) greatest fear. Now when Enron and Tyco went down I thought maybe it was going to turn around but..

Big Business has entrenched itself into our government (Lobbyist, ear marked money, Campaign finance etc etc..). Remember Campaign finance because, I honestly think that may be one of the important issues that could be paramount to a good change in our Gov.

Capitalism is measured by money. Capitalism does not care about people. It doesn't matter how much philanthropy Bill Gates does every year. At the end of the year he/Microsoft is judged by their profits.

Now I'm not anti capitalism per say.. but when it gets into the Government, such as it has, the Government stops being a “by and for the people entity”.

The only way to take back our Government is to get the corporate funding of politicians out of the political system. But that will be very hard cuz they're well entrenched now.

Rob, the pain in the back that he is, speaks of local involvement. This grass roots type of involvement is the only, IMO, way to begin to take back and/or create a by the people for the people government. The fact that it takes millions maybe billions of dollars to be considered a viable candidate keeps the large companies in charge of the Country.

Ah crap..my client just came in..early. Well you got the jist of it. Aloha, dave

Take care,
dave
Blessings,
dave

Getting back to burglary and larceny in HPP, I think we all agree that it is a serious problem. We all also agree that the police are ignoring the problem. They follow the money, and all of the grants and federal largesse is devoted to drugs (not prescription drugs -- you are welcome to those no matter how dangerous they are once you have a prescription). I think we can also agree that larceny is not a treasured cultural tradition we want to nurture in the new Hawai'i.

I've read that if you buy a new waterpump in HPP and leave it unattended, it will be stolen. Wow.

I do believe that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Liberal, and conservative, middle of the road, and undeclared, I think we can all agree that Hawai'i government needs to be more responsive to the needs of its citizens.

Of course, part of the charm of Puna is its disconnect from anything resembling civilization. I think the challenge will be in maintaining the live and let live attitude, while nurturing a culture where you can leave the doors unlocked, the water pump in the yard and still find everything where you left it when you come back.

That might be Montana! In the meantime, I think that Rob's back ache is attributable to the fact that he has carried a lot of Puna on it for quite awhile! Meetings, websites, master plans....whooh. Take TWO valium tonight!

Can I snap a thread back to topic or what?

Glen can definitely snap a thread back to topic.

And I'll try to summarize: it would be nice if the police spent less time worrying about someone smoking a doobie, and more time trying to get people's washer/dryer/bed back.

Seems fair.

If it was New Orleans they would have also stripped the copper wiring from your house.

I just read this thread and am shocked and disgusted by Hilohaule's racist remarks, "Hawaii doesn't have the criminal element of Blacks like New Orleans and Florida."

If you look at the history of the world, the European invasion/conquest/colonization of the third world was the most brutal in world history.

My statement was not a racist statement. It was statement based on facts, not emotion. Please read this link:
