I didn't want to write a long post on this. So lets just say that I agree with just about every thing thats been posted here.
Let me add.. that when our forefathers founded this Country they were concerned about capitalism,, or lets say capitalism left un-checked.
Fast forward to the last 6 years and we can get a glimpse of their (our founding fathers) greatest fear. Now when Enron and Tyco went down I thought maybe it was going to turn around but..
Big Business has entrenched itself into our government (Lobbyist, ear marked money, Campaign finance etc etc..). Remember Campaign finance because, I honestly think that may be one of the important issues that could be paramount to a good change in our Gov.
Capitalism is measured by money. Capitalism does not care about people. It doesn't matter how much philanthropy Bill Gates does every year. At the end of the year he/Microsoft is judged by their profits.
Now I'm not anti capitalism per say.. but when it gets into the Government, such as it has, the Government stops being a “by and for the people entity”.
The only way to take back our Government is to get the corporate funding of politicians out of the political system. But that will be very hard cuz they're well entrenched now.
Rob, the pain in the back that he is, speaks of local involvement. This grass roots type of involvement is the only, IMO, way to begin to take back and/or create a by the people for the people government. The fact that it takes millions maybe billions of dollars to be considered a viable candidate keeps the large companies in charge of the Country.
