Aloha,
Anybody out there have a lead on Salak or Snake Fruit. Had it in Bali, wonderful fruit with a skin that looks like snake scales. The flesh is firm like a nut but not
crunchy. One large seed in the middle.
Delicious!

This Pahoa company has the plant itself. They must know where to find the seed:

There are two types of Salak: Bali and Thai. The fruits taste similar but the Thai version is red. The tree is also taller:

We intend to plant a whole hedge of Bali Salak. This is a beautiful palm. The fruit is at the base of the plant. The plant has a lot of thorns so pick with care.

Plants need to be protected from the sun when they are babies. In nature, they are often found in the shade of larger trees.
We just bought some land in Bali. Dreaming of a retirement divided between Puna and Bali!

Mahalo for the tip. Didn't know they were here. Been to Bali and can see how you can be torn between the two...such a dilema to have!
