Ceramic Tile

Some months ago I bought a painting by Kona artist Marshal White. I'm really impressed by his work and noticed on his website that you can have ceramic tile murals done of some of his art work. I'm playing with the idea of doing my guest bathroom floor in the painting he calls-Koi Pond. What I would like to know is, has anyone done something similar to this, if so, how well has it held up.

Buzz, I like their selection, but I am not sure they are for floor applications. I clicked on their "Product info" & they list wall applications. I would check with them to see if these tiles are floor grade (some ceramics cannot hold up to foot traffic & are not weight bearing)

You can address the weight bearing issue by applying a concrete backer like HardiBacker on the subfloor before applying the tile. The wear issue is tougher. Glazed ceramic tile can chip if you drop something on them. If a illustration chips or breaks you have to find the exact same tile in order to do a repair. It is not as simple as saving a few extra tiles just in case. I prefer natural stone or porcelain tile for floor application because chips don't show up. Another consideration is glazed tile is usually smooth and can get slippery when wet. A textured surface is safer in a bathroom where there is water and there are many hard surfaces in a confined space.

Man oh man, Punawebbers rock! Thanks sansei, I'll mention those points when I call the company. Maybe they can use a floor grade texture tile, might cost a bit more but I sure would love those fish nipping at me toes!
