Asian Food Stores in Hilo/Puna
#1
Has anyone found a good Asian grocery store in Hil or Puna?

The 3 major chains (KTA, Sack & Save & Safeway) all have large Asian sections.

There are also many small stores that have a variety of asian products, including food items. Of course, for fresh veggies, the farmers markets have an awesome variety of fruit & veggies.

There is one on the bayfront too, it's called something like "Fishmarket" but has lots of Thai and Filipino stuff.

The woman who makes the fantastic green papaya salads at Maku'u market mentioned that you can get the Thai shoyu that she uses at an Asian market in Hilo. It wasn't one of the chains. Of course, the medium spicy salad I had subsequently burned the name of the store from my memory.

There's a Filipino market in Kea'au on Old Volcano Rd. Haven't been to it, though.

I often go to the market at the Keeau Marketplace.
I generally go to the same person every time and she usually throws in an extra veggie or 2 or bananas.
I always show up for the hydr-lettuce on Saturday. Doesn't seem to want to wilt and rot quite as fast.
There are numerous Philippine stores in little corners here and there.
Just shop around a bit, find the ones you like and shop there frequently. You will be rewarded at least in my experience.

Perhaps we shouldn't regard Aloha as a requirement of the people of Hawaii and just be grateful when we recieve it?
