Volcano acting up

Here's a link to some topo maps for the Big Island. I'll let you locals pick out which map is in play. Post some if you find them, I think Fern Acres is in there.

If by some chance the flow moves north, instead of south, it would likely follow the lowest elevation, which would be along the old volcano trail just south of hwy. 11, through FFVE, into Eden Roc, Fern Acres, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland and on through HPP to Kaloli Point and into the ocean. Lets hope that doesn't happen!

The residents in Vog zones who don't like Vog are happy that Pu'o O'o has shut down it's Vog maker.

From the Trib today, the floor of Pu'u 'O'o has collapsed more than 100 meters, 330', since this episode began this week (more than the height of the Statue of Liberty)

Has anyone gone to the Park since Wed? Are they still waving the entrance fee?

Carey.

They are charging again. I think it was just when they had most of Crater Rim Drive closed that they let people in for free.

Chain of Craters is still closed.
This morning Crater Rim was open, but it was closed for most of yesterday due to high levels of SO2.

The hula performance at the park this morning was great. The art center will be sponsoring another one in August. I recommend it. Free, but you do have to pay the park entrance fee.

Things are a'changin' again. Pu'u O'o crater is collapsing & a a new eruption has started in fissures east of the Pu'u O'o crater. The cameras on Pu'u O'o are dark, and the update from the HVO is at:

Hopefully this is just temporary and it will switch back west to Pu'u O'o. On some of those maps, it's kind of scary how close current flow is to Black Sand Beach neighborhood, although still several miles. A little scary that flow is coming from the furthest point east on the rift zone in 15 years!

Here's the live cam of the current flow:

To find the Internet address of the majority of live cams watching the various craters, vents or flows just change within the address: /cam3/ to /cam1/ or /cam5/ etc..
