Buying real estate in a market that you are not familiar with is no easy task. Even so, we had a remarkable experience doing so, in large part because of our agent. We relied upon Julie Paul, a licensed broker operating out of Pahoa (http://www.juliepaul.com/).
We could not have asked for better treatment and wanted you to know, in case anyone out there is looking for representation.
We have bought a lot of real estate over the years and know the difference between a good agent and a bad one. Julie was excellent in every way. She provided us with all of the data we needed to understand the local options, sent us listings and comps on a regular basis, and was eager to help us find the perfect property. I especially appreciated her willingness to tell us when she thought we were making an error or overlooking some important issue.
She is also a delightful person in every way. We not only found a great property, we also made a wonderful new friend.
I'm sure there are many good agents working in the Puna district. Indeed, there are a couple of outstanding ones who participate daily on this forum, always eager to help out. If you are looking for an agent, I encourage you to put Julie Paul on your short list and interview her. She has so much to offer!
We will be using her again in our future Puna district land purchases.
