Papaya trees

I'm getting ready to buy some seeds for a few plants. What is the most desirable variety of papaya to have?[:p]

The SB had an article last week on Papayas with a couple of recipes you might be interested in.

Royall, we have a few different varieties, they just pop up, probably from the seeds of papayas we have eaten. We have some very small fruited trees & one tree that has very large oblong fruits. We have a newbie that started a fruit this winter before the drought, this fruit is now almost basketball size & shape & is just starting to blush....
I am not sure if papaya are totally true to seed, but if you are eating one you like, scoop the seeds in the potential papaya garden & cover with a light layer of soil....

Have you looked at the U of H website for ordering seeds? They have seed packets at reasonable prices and I think they have the rainbow papaya. That one is my personal favorite, but I'm sure you will find one which is your favorite. Plant several different types and see which ones you prefer?

If you get the "home packet" the seeds are about $1 per packet.

Thanks for all the replies. I was at Garden Exchange this week and they had a start called watermelon[:p]. My curiosity got the better of me and bought it. I also got a packed of seed to try out. Now I'll see how green my thumb can get[Big Grin]
