Roof painting
#1
No, not the kind advertising tobacco products for sale. I mean the kind of paint that you put on roofs that collect rainwater for catchments. How often do you think roofs should be painted? I seem to recall from previous discussions that a certain type of paint is used on roofs -- a food grade type of paint. Can you get any color you want? (I guess lighter colors are cooler) Who supplies these paints, and is there anyone who specializes in painting roofs?

Glen, I can not answer any of your questions, but one of our neighbors told us to make sure we loosened up the roofing fastners (ours are screws) - enough to get a toothpick into - before painting to make sure that you can get paint up to & under the seam, otherwise the normal expansion & contraction of the roof will give you seam lines that vary in size with the varying temperature of the roof.
We haven't painted....so am not totally sure if you actually place toothpicks in the seam while you paint... If you want, we could ask him when he walks his dog ...

Hi Carey...no immediate need....just pondering what I might be able to go if I get a roof...which I hope to do soon! My thought is paint it gold, but I don't know if you can paint roofs gold, that is, roofs that channel water into catchment.

Make sure he has his dog on a leash. That's all I ask.

I'm going to guess that gold paint would be a catchment no-no. Best thing to do is go to a mainline local paint store and ask them. Dulux for example near the airport. I think you will get better info from a paint store than a paint department in Home Depot of HPM. You could also ask the Heath Department. It would be a real drag to mess up your catchment with the wrong paint or get poisoned.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Glen, the dog is always on a leash (in part because of our fierce attack cat) Are you thinking metallic gold, or a golden yellow?. We have been thinking metallic silver roof paint.... but haven't notice gold... do not know if the silver is good for catchment (we are on county water)
BTW does this mean you are close to OWNING a roof & moving & all? We wish you guys the best...

Thinking sort of a japanese burnished gold, or a copperish color. Would hate to drink it though. We appear to be edging closer to our dream, but anything can happen, so hang on for new developments and announcements. Wouldn't want to jinx it!
