I find it interesting that this publication recommends the use of gray water as a means of resource conservation but the state dept of health seems to be almost anal about the use of gray water (no joke intended). Does any one know of any published guidelines for "legal" gray water systems?

The only folks who could say what was and was not legal would be the Dept of Health folks and they take a really dim view of reusing grey water. They also dislike composting toilets.

I claimed DOH was anal because you are right, and they keep their heads you know where. Gray water use happens whether it is "legal" or not but there are sensible, safe ways of doing it and there are dangerous to the homeowner and neighbors ways of doing it. Providing a "legal" way with published rules and guidelines keeps it in the open where DOH knows where it is being done and can keep an eye on it. Neighbors can also join the watch since permits are viewable by the public.
