Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary
#1
The Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary , located in Kurtistown, is severely in need of volunteers.

If you, or any and all of your Ohana can spare time for feeding the dogs/cats & pigs, walking dogs, cutting grass, general maintenance of the facility, it would greatly be appreciated.

Donations of dog/ cat food, leftover building materials, *operable* mowers or weedeaters, and monetary contributions help to purchase the items that are needed, but not donated.

An unbelieveable amount of dogs have been taken in recently , so if your a dog lover, come in and make a new friend.

Don't forget, we would like to adopt every animal out, so when your searching for a new kitty or dog, we are here 7 days a week.

Hi guys. Wish I could help now, but we won't be living in Puna until 2009. I would love to volunteer to help the animals! We don't think we'll have our own because we want to do some traveling when we retire, but this may take care of my need to be around them! Tell me more about the Rainbow Sanctuary.... any vet on board? (I have a medical/surgical support background) You can email me or respond here.

The Sanctuary was founded by Mary Rose and is still operated by her today.
It is a no-kill sanctuary currently housing approximately 70 dogs and 200 cats, so you can imagine the need for volunteers and donations !

There have been some changes in the past few months. We hope steadily improving !!

The veterinary services are provided by Seeske Versluys /Kilauea Vet.

For more info. see the website at www.rainbowfriends.org

You can also make a credit card donation at the website. All donations are tax deductible.

Our local number is 808-982-5110

My friend asked me to donate some money to them since she knows I only donate to animal welfare organizations. I sent them $100 and they never even said thank you.

Sorry to hear that John.

Our involvement with the Sanctuary began approximately three months ago. During this time we were made aware of numerous issues - family oriented - that had recently happened and were now over.

But I am sure you can understand, with a literal skeleton crew to serve the day to day needs of the animals, as well as general upkeep of the facility, a Thank You letter for your donation could possibly have been overlooked.

In any event, Thank You for your donation, and we will forward your concern to the founder.

I only donate to animal welfare organizations. I am a huge supporter of advoCATS and HIHS. In fact, when Cathy and I got married we asked our guests not to give us gifts, write a check to advoCATS instead. I also donated a one acre land in HPP to the HIHS. I do not expect medals for my donations but when I sent a check to Rainbow I enclosed my business card with my e-mail address on. Is it too much to expect a simple e-mail note of a thank you?

John, ABR,CM,CRB,FHS,RB,
It would have been nice to get a thank you note for you generous donation, but why did you give them your support? For the work they do, or their beaurocratic efficiency? Maybe they could use a volunteer thank you note writer.

Sorry Greg, I was brought up in the old way. My Mom thaught me to say "Thank You!" when someone gave me something. In addition, non-profit organizations are supposed to send a receipt for donations and I did not get that either.
