What is your favorite dive place to eat and why?

Carrie,

Paolo's is right their on the strip in old pahoa next to Nings Thai restaurant...some of the best pastas in town, after mine that is...all his seafood dishes are amazing since he's from the ocean part of italy - i think the ligurian coast not far from genoa - so any dish with pesto is a must, even just the pesto pasta dish....deliciouso

Noel, Nihon? (BTW, most of these places I think are fairly NICE, not really dives at all)
The old Ocean Sushi deli was more dive like...still has great sushi, but the new place is much cleaner
the fish place on the back of Suisan for some of the freshest fish
Hiros near SacknSave(miss the Keaau Hiros) for a nice breakfast fried rice
Tako Taco Waimea good tacos, (but not really divey either)

My favorite "DIVE" place to eat BBQ potluck is Richardson's Beach Park in Hilo on the first Sunday at 10AM. That's this Sunday. Come on out and you'll see what I mean...

Okay I just thought of something - a girl I used to work with turned me onto...the breakfast rice at Malama Market...it's cheap and oh boy it's good!

Well...not really dives...but the best values I've seen around...

Dons Grill (On Hinano past Big Island Candies...great for breakfasts!)

1 Plus 1 Cafe (Next to Hilo Bay Cafe...any Pho dish!)

Pizza Hawaii (Puna Market Place or Puainako...great pizza bakes, big enough for two!)

Ocean Sushi Deli (on Keawe...great value!)

Donna's Smokin' BBQ (Keaau Village Market...try her "to die for" chowder!)

That Chinese place next to Sirus Coffee in Pahoa...I don't know the name...but the meats are excellent quality!

Best local dive for Mexican food is Luquins.
For seafood try the Seaside across from the beach parks at the fishponds definately not a dive.
