I need to know where I can take my two menehunes so they can go 'Trick or Treat'? Or a place where there is some kinda halloween function going on.

HPP has something called a "trunk and treat". As I understand, people come, open their car trunks and the kids go from car to car. I thought I read it in "The Conch"

Last year I took my kids to New Hope Church. They had carnaval games, rides and all kinds of entertainment. Look in the newspaper or call the church for details.

HPP trunk & treat is at the Hui off of Makuu between 17th & 18th.
There has also been stuff at the PKP mall in Hilo the last two years (stores offering treats n stuff)
I know that some folks drive there kids to the more downtown areas of Keaau (often parking in front of our house), and I would guess they also go to Pahoa & Hilo.
Do they have anything at the log house in Ainola or the community centers in Nanawale, Hawaiian Beaches/Rec/Shores/Shores Est. or any of the others?

I haven't taken my kids for several years, but there were a couple of neighborhoods in the past that were more "trick or treat friendly". One is in Panaewa (the neighborhood on the puna side of the mall). Most houses participate, and large numbers of kids and parents are present. Near Pahoa, Tangerine Gardens is good, but pretty dark.

Beach,
Prince Kuhio Plaza is where we have gone the last few years, the shopkeepers pass out candy and usually alot of kids all dressed up.

wow, thanks for the replies everybody. Malls, I think that has been in fashion for a few years now for safety reasons. I use to take my kids to Kahala Mall and do one pass through ground level, then we'd hit the Kahala neighborhood or our own the Kapahulu, Kaimuki area.

I realize kids get "jacked up" for a few holidays, Xmas, Halloween, and Birthdays. So I try my best not to let them down when these times arrive. I also realize that Puna is not gonna have the Halloween neighborhood traffic that Honolulu has or even a fraction of homes passing out goodies that Honolulu does. For me, "no biggie". But my kids that could be a different story, especially for the 8 yr old who's use to seeing a festive Halloween.
Gang, I try to make my kids happy at every turn if I can. To me life is just to short not to enjoy it to it's max! To see my kids happy, makes me profoundly happy too. So I really appreciate all your responses about Halloween....thanks huh!

Roger

Carey, do you have any idea what time the "trunk and treat" starts on Halloween at the HPP Hui?

while it's not exactly rural, Prince Kuhio is fun.
You at least know it won't rain on the kids.
Even straight stores like Macy's loosen up for the costumed ones, and you'll see some good costumes there.
