#11
I got three trees at the last Plant It Hawaii sale and two are doing well and my Navel Orange just completely dead.

Mitzi,

welcome back...so which fun gardens did you get to see when you went to kauai, i'm sure you went to the beautiful native garden up north in haena area?

They would have to have the sales on separate sides of the island, wouldn't they! Guess we will have to choose which one to go to although maybe it could be possible to get to both?

Right now I'm preparing a salad garden. Getting it all dug up and fencing the chickens out. They've been helping me turn over the dirt today and now there are a lot less bugs than there were before. They eat the worms, too, though and I kinda wish they wouldn't do that but they add fertilizer so it all evens out.

This week I'll be direct seeding lettuce and onions and starting pole beans in pots to put out when they get started. Celery will be direct seeded this week, too.

After Winter Solstice in December, then the sunlight will get longer and the rest of the garden plants will be started.

That's my plan, we will see how it works.

I just wanna give credit where it's due. Susi from Plant It Hawaii sent me an email and they will happily replace my navel tree that died. That's wonderful news, thanks Susi!

I have the same problem. I bought about 13 different fruit trees during the last sale from Plant it Hawaii, all are doing well except one lychee that is also completely dead.

Did you contact them about your dead Naval? Thanks.

Ohh, good topic! I've direct-seeded green onions and tatsoi and the rain has beat them down (in Mountain View)...so will try them in pots protected from the rain. But the peas are doing well! Only one bean (asparagas) out of six came up, but it's doing alright even with the lack of sunshine lately. In seed start pack, I've got lettuce and broccoli doing well (protected from the rain). My cukes and squash are not protected, and are also doing well so far (they're about 3 inches high). Tomato's didn't come up very well in the seed start pack...probably lack of heat? Have rosemary, dill and parsley in pots, and the rosemary is getting pale in places (again, lack of sunshine?), but otherwise doing well. The dill, however, isn't happy. A grand experiment! Will concentrate more on the wonderful fruit trees from Plant It Hawaii, and on the trees/plants from Royal Palm Estates sale. Was thinking about keeping the Tahitian lime and Meyers lemon in large pots rather than planting them out? Any advice?
