Volcano acting up

A few back up plans would improve financial stability for Puna

I think I'd rather swim around than drive on some of those temporary bridges!

Actually, the fellow with the lava watching boat who is looking to expand could be a partial solution if he is willing to ferry people and/or supplies.

I think the powers that be are watching with their fingers crossed and hoping the issue doesn't come up, but I also bet they have ideas rolling around. They aren't telling us because they are not perfect solutions and will raise a lot of flak. Once the lava is creeping across 130, people will be less critical of imperfect solutions, as long as there is some way to get around.

In the opinion of those that live on the BI.......If someone was thinking about buying a home in the Leilani Estates / Nanawale area, should they be concerned with the lava flow and the purchase of a house?

Yes, those bridges should work perfectly provided they are suspended over a lake of fire!

Merd-

Hard to say whether someone should be concerned. Should it be on your radar? Sure. But no more now than 4 months ago when the eruption changed. Even if the new eruption stops (which it hasn't done), you should buy a house fully cognizant that every day is a new day with the volcano and that there are no promises. As Greg points out, it's fine living near the volcano if you are prepared that you may need to move or adjust. That's where the notion of needing to be concerned is a personal matter. No one here can reassure you that a particular neighborhood will or will not be endangered in the future.

Anyone know what the circumference of Pu'u O'o crater itself is?

Does anybody know about whether a typical homeowner's policy covers the peril of volcano? Do your homeowner's policies address that, or is there a separate rider of some kind like earthquake policies?

How do I know?
Aloha! ;-)

Not covered (but check with your agent). But when the lava sets your house on fire, covered (but check with your agent).

Nothing to worry about though right now. Pele has been disturbed from a peaceful sleep but has not yet awakened. She is just tossing a little. She may go back to sleep.

Be vewwy vewwy quiet.

there are several nice lots in Leilani that have steam vents, active.
Nanawale you should more worry about your car being stolen.
What I am begining to realize is there are a whole lot of people on here who are not here. And haven't seen it mentioned as much? new "thread" the crime will get you before pele will.
