The Trib has an article today regarding an Environmental Assessment for the paving of 3.8 miles of the Honolulu Landing Road.

I don't have property in that area but I do know a number of people that do, and all of them are against it. There are some for it, I'm sure, but everyone I know that lives there wants it left alone.

Then there is the Hwy 130 issue - what if it is covered and we need an alternate access?

Honolulu landing is a few thousand feet south of Hawaiian Beaches. Most people here call the road Waa Waa road.

I would not spend a single dollar paving any road in Puna at the present time, much less the road near Honolulu landing, which sees very light travel, mostly by residents of the area.
If it were within my power, I would stop the paving in HPP, too. That was a bad idea, because speeds will only go up on the cross streets. Right now, rough cinder roads keep speeds fairly low.
It is folly to even talk about paving a road until we see what Pele is going to do....

Glen, Your opinions are quite valid. My point in responding is that we know what Pele is going to do. We accept that and live here or we do not accept that and we leave.

It *would* be better to pave it now, instead of waiting until HWY 130 may be flooded, don'cha think?
That way, the far-eastern Puna residents could be ferried when needed, to get to Hilo (and off island, too).
Who are the people that would be impacted (the anti-s)?
(I don't think it would increase travel unless Pele "makes it so" as that is just more lava fields to drive past, and thus is really out-of-the-way for tour buses & sightseers, isn't it?)
