Lots of ideas. It sure is great to have all these heads thinking about alternatives. Punaweb has been such a fountain of information since I joined up a couple of years ago. Thanks for all the input.

John this would probably belong in another topic. But I do recall seeing this in my wanderings on the net in the past. I think I would have to invest a signifigant amount to qualify for green card or residency. But, this might be an option in the future when I get to retirement age. But then again that would not be retirement would it
Thanks to the other John or ARE you the John. Confusing

Canucks are fun !!! ahhhh.... to reminis back to my adventures in Montreal. The summer walks down St. Charles st. & and all the disco techs on St.Catherine. The increased alcohol volume in the beer, ahhh to be young again and in Montreal !!!
Is there even an Imigration office in Hilo ??? or do you have to go to Oahu ?
Trust me when I tell you, they don't care about your legal status. Until just recently you don't even need a passport to travel back and forth.
It's crazy how the dollar is falling. I was half joking the other day and said I want to be paid in Euros...keep the dollars. Once OPEC starts basing the cost of oil on the Euro the Dollar is done. The only thing that could save the dollar is China going hands off on the money values there.

The strength of the Canadian loonie is troublesome to the manufacuteres in this country because in the international economy they are paid in US Dollars. They didn't complain too much when it cost us $1.64 to buy a US dollar. Anyhow for us it is great because now it will be that much cheaper to build on the BI. And with the US $ so low, how come our gas prices here in Canada keep going up. I know it's about $100 for a barrel, but at least the price should not be rising so much here in Canada.
Nate, sounds like you have some fond memories of Canada. We live on the West Coast in Vancouver.

I spoke to a lady at the water co. today and she said that anyone can get hooked up if they come up with the $1,500 for the connection. Also, cost per month until Jan. is $36 and going up to $40. Then towards the middle of the year I think she said they go up to $48/month. So, I thinks the moraturium is no longer. Although $1,500 is a lot, but then we will be able to get water. This is great. I thought I would have to wait maybe a year. Now I can start the planning.

actually $1500 is not bad, in that it costs quite a bit more than that to get County water if it's available.
Good idea about buying truckloads of water.
