Vacation Rental Companies
#1
I did a search on this subject and couldn't come up with anything. I know I have seen referrals for good vacation rental companies in one of these threads. Anybody have any suggestions. There seems to be plenty of them around but it would be nice to have somebody with a good track record and good references.

I have used vrbo to rent houses in puna and have had very good luck with accomodations and prices. On Kauai I highly recommend Kauai Vacation Rentals always had great houses, clean, got our deposits back quickly and nice people to deal with.

well, vrbo is not a rental company. It's just a for fee web service that lets owners advertise and in no way is responsible. It has lots of offerings but just know you are dealing directly with an owner and that's it. Different vrbo listings are unrelated to each other with respect to management.

An actual rental company will oversee rental and maintenance of the properties.

sorry, I have never used one here, just posting to make it clear that vrbo is very much like craigslist, only craigslist is free and vrbo charges $150 a year or something.

I am looking for a company that would rent out a property that I am considering purchasing in Hawaiian Beaches. I am familiar with VRBO. They could work but I think I would prefer an on Island company that would look after all things like cleaning, property management and upkeep. VRBO would be a great backup. Thanks for the suggestions.

The two vacation rental sites that I am aware of are Mark & Ron's at http://www.hpvacationrentals.com/
and Susan and Glenn's at http://hawaiianhomesvacationrentals.com

I have rented from both. Mark & Ron are well regarded and went out of there way for me when I rented. Good results with the other vacation rental company as well. If you click on some of the properties on vrbo.com you will see that you click through to Mark & Ron. I chose to "long term rent" my house, but would have felt very comfortable going with Mark & Ron.

Thanks Glen and all that have responded. I am familiar with Susan and Glen's Co as she is selling a cottage up on Kahakama St.

As John Rabi will tell you, if you live off island you are required to use a licensed property manager for your rental.

VRBO is marketing site that helps bring in bookings, and a good one as lots of people use it when they search. You can use it but to be legal you still need the property manager, who, IIRC, has to be supervised by a licensed real estate brokerage,

If you live off island you have to have an on-island property manager. Your manager does not have to be licensed if he/she does not manage any other properties, your being the only one. (Your unlicensed property manager can manage multiple of your properties as long as he/she does not manage properties for anyone else.) Any other scenarios require a licensed property manager who is working under the supervision of a licensed real estate broker.

I did know that I would need an on Island representative to look after rentals. VRBO could be in addition to a rental agent for exposure. I quess it is pretty obvious that I not on Island by the Canada on the threads. I am looking forward to coming to the Big Island soon I hope. Maybe in Feb
