A cold front is expected to arrive on the big island this afternoon sometime. It is packing lots of rain, 3-4 inches an hour, and wind, 60 mph gusts. It may stall over the island. Watch out for powerlines and trees. also there may be power outages so have your flashlights ready.
Aloha,

on its way?! its here already(wind anyway). Our electric went off, then on, and has been blinking now since before 6 AM...
But looking at the upper air level maps, the rain may miss major portion of the Big Island. Maui looks slammed right now with rain.

Yes, it has been here since yesterday. We had a wind gust topple two ohia trees and break the tops out of two others. One of the ohia trees is leaning on the roof, but does not appear to have damaged it. The soft leaves and smaller branches must have cushioned it. One of those snapped off damaged the front fence. Oh well, it can all be fixed.
Cheers,
Jerry

The radar I looked showed almost no rain out some distance. Just squalls. The wind is here indeed.

the weather in the volcano area is already severe.. with very high winds.. and over 2 inches of rain in the last hour (between 8 and 9am) as measured on the west side of kilauea summit. here, on the slope of mauna loa just north of the volcano village.. trees are down.. the road is flooded.. and Im amazed the power is still on. the best (IMHO) site for weather (satellite) products is at

A contact on Molokai told me:
Molokai got drenched, and the highway always flood when that happens. At 5am yesterday, a neighbor with a rain gauge said that it was registering almost 6 inches per hour, but luckily that downpour only lasted a few minutes. It dumped, so be prepared. There were some very strong winds from the south and east also, and the seas are still very heavy - lucky we have the fringing reef all along the south shore.
