Lamont Ranch Happenings
#1
I was writing on the regular forum, for what reason I have no idea... brain block?

Anyway:

We have had great success with our hair sheep. So far, five babies have been born since Thanksgiving and we expect two more this week. They are absolutely adorable, healthy and oh gosh, just fun!

We have three goats; wethers that will be ready to sell for slaughter any time now (if anyone is interested).

We have had wild pigs everywhere this season but some rogue hunters have been out back and done away with a lot of them.

We have a herd of about 15 wild goats that have been responsible for eating up all kinds of our garden stuff. They are the culprits that did in our original coffee trees. I have applied for a government grant program to help us fence the perimeter of the property.

The fruit trees are on track. We got a very little bit of this and a little bit of that... figs, tangerines, lemons, guava, oranges.... so next year we should be up and running at least table fruit.

Bananas are going crazy. We harvested our first big bunch. Yummy fresh but too many to manage, I have begun making banana chips in the dehydrator. Oh, man, just slice them up, sprinkle on cinnamon, and let them dry 24 hours or so. Great sweet chips. today I am doing the last of those bananas, some papaya and two apples.

Who says a city kid can't adapt to country living? I am having fun fun fun.... hope you are too.
Aloha, Pam

Pam, Your operation up there is way beyond what most city girls jump into! Just amazing...all the creatures, fruits, land, mud, building, etc...put me right to shame for sure! I had about 50 liliquoi off my vine and juiced 'em yesterday. Made Liliquoi Cranberry bread instead of using orange juice, substituted the liliquoi...very yummy. Recipe's on the back of the Ocean Spray fresh cranberries bag.

Can you post some pics of your new babies? I'd love to get a look at 'em!

I was checking out the sheep today... ad the one I thought had only one is still pregnant; it was a younger one who had the single... we weren't even sure if she was pregnant or bloated! So we have probably another set of twins on the way. Keep you posted.

I made an unexpected emergency trip to Kona and ended up having to stay the night. I sadly report that when I returned, the two newest lambs died during the night. There was heavy rain, everything even inside the sheep house was soaked, pigs had gotten into the sheep pen.... somewhere in all that they appear to have been crushed.

Good news is that the first six are looking AWESOME!!
