Kaleo's Restaurant in Pahoa
#1
WOW, what a restaurant and right in Pahoa. The old Clemente’s has been refurbished in to Kaleo’s Bar and Grill. They advertise it as a bar and grill but it’s not, it’s a full-blown restaurant with a bar. No hamburgers or grilled sandwiches here, the menu consists of higher-end beef, pasta, salads and fish. We dined there last night and I gotta’ tell you it’s the best dinner we had on the Island in the last two years. Don’t get me wrong the resorts do a great job but at twice the price and they are on the other side of the Island.
The ambiance was great as well as the service and the food was exceptional. The portions were a good size and none of us left hungry.
The four of us had 2 glasses of wine, 3 appetizers, 4 main courses and one shared desert (with 4 spoons) all for $142 including the tip. The shared desert was a great idea, just enough at the end of the meal and not a huge mound of sweetness that you can’t finish.
These guys have done an exceptional job with this restaurant.
Because the price is on the higher end it’s not a place where we would go every Saturday night. For us it’s like once a month or special occasions.
Appetizers $8-12, Main Course $16-25, white wine $5/glass and deserts around $7.
I know this place isn’t for everyone but do yourself a favor and stop in and try it, if you’re like us I think you’ll enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the intro Scott! We have heard of this place being in the "works" the last time we had dinner at Paolo's and I was hoping it wouldn't be a "flop" like Clemente's was. We certainly will try it the next time we go o the East side.

Kat,
We had frozen chocolate moose with vanilla ice cream drizzled with raspberry and chocolate sauce.
John,
You will not be disappointed this place is great.

I echo Scott's glowing testimonial.

We ordered the hot wings appetizer, split a dinner salad, then for the entre we got the seafood special (salmon)and the Vodka Penne Pasta (with mahimahi). We finished the meal splitting the decadent chocolate delight Scott already described. (Wife ate most of it [Sad] )...Oh yeah, I also ordered a glass of wine.

It was all very good: the food, ambiance and service. The wait staff seems to really care, and knows how to talk to/treat a customer. They even threw in the dessert for free being that it was our anniversary (24 years and counting...)

We left a 20% tip and the bill came to $75, enough to feed 3 people. Not bad at all! We brought the leftovers home to our hungry 18-year old, who gave us the "thumbs up." (He'd give rave reviews to Jack-in-the-box, so take it for what it's worth Smile

Give Kaleo's a try. Now we just have to wait for the "final word" in Rabi's review.

Thanks for the heads up Scott!

Cathie and I had dinner there tonight and we will definitely be back! We had almost stopped there New Years Eve, when we went to have dinner at Luquin's and found them closed. The name with "Bar and Grill" just didn't sound like a like a place to try on New Years Eve.

Tonight we started by sharing a Haiku salad and we new at that point we found a new favorite restaurant. Cathie had the Scampi and I had the Stake Medallions with Diane sauce. Both were great and we toped it off with a shared chocolate dessert that was good as it gets. We too will be going back again. The two dinners with one glass of very good wine, one salad, and one dessert was $75.00 plus gratuity.

Like Scott said, not every Friday night but I hope we can get back every month or two!

We went to Kaleo's tonight based on what we read on the PUNAWEB. It was really good. We had the Kaleo Stir fried beef and tea. Really excellent, $40!

Based on Punaweb reviews we ate there last week and it was excellent.

Great food, super staff and very nice ambiance.

Four thumbs up!
