Lunar Eclipse
#1
Anyone know if we will be able to see the eclipse tonight?
Early last night the moon was full and no clouds in the sky.

It's over now, but it was very cool looking here in California. Very deep brown, dark umbral shadow. My son in Florida and I looked at it at the same time, talking on the phone. It was low in the eastern horizon for me, it would've been higher in the sky for him.

There was a flat spot on one side, like a soft sugar cookie gets when it is dropped on edge. Then the clouds came in, so I don't know if it did much more than that.

We saw it in Hilo before the UHH concert. The moon rose with about a 1/3 darkish (umbral, what an artistic term!) bite, and as the moon rose the bite got smaller & smaller, by 7:00 there was a nimble still out & the moon was sitting on the cloud layer... & it was time to go into the theater.

We were out at the lava flow - the moon was awesome - just a few clouds. The lava flow seemed fairly "quiet" but it was hard to tell with so much light from the moon.

I was blessed to see it while flying on an airplane from Chico to San Francisco. Spectacular. A little spooky. But not as frightening as you know what!!
