Very nice. Glen's right - makes you want a drink with an umbrella in it...

Didn't they dismantle the Tiki Room at Disneyland? Or maybe it was just closed for renovations when I was there. My favorite attraction....hmmm.....maybe we could REASSEMBLE the Tiki Room in Puna! We would serve passionfruit margaritas, and on Fridays, have hula dancers! I could run the smoke-free bar, and we would save the prettiest hula dancers for smoke breaks outside! Live polynesian style music on the main stage. I'm getting a concept....

For those of you with tiki lounge lizard in your blood, I stumbled across these websites while looking for the venue for the upcoming Hot Tuna Acoustic concert in Honolulu (they play at the Palace Theater on Mar. 1). The Honolulu venue is the Hawaiian Hut. Here's some info on the place. I've never heard of it before, but it sounds interesting:

from the Tiki Central Forum
http://www.tikiroom.com/tikicentral/bb/v...opic=19151&forum=2&12

It's in the Ala Moana Hotel and one of the comments is that it apparently caters to Japanese tourists. You can go to YouTube and search for "Hawaiian Hut" and you'll see that there are Polynesian revues and Slam Poetry presentations using the venue.

Also, from the Hawaiian Airlines inflight mag, Hana Hou, there was a story about a tiki lounge act, Don Tiki. Their name came up in the Tiki Central Forum, too, having played at the aforementioned venue. Here are some links:

The Hana Hou website might have the article online, eventually.

Hot Tuna!!! Wow who knew! Haven't heard them in a, well never mind, some time.

The Tiki Room is still going in Disneyland, with the singing birds and thunder and rain and all and is still great fun! Well as of May 07!

Sadly the restaurant with Polynesian food just around the corner from the Tiki Room is no longer.

My personal favorite restaurant at DL is the Blue Bayou...where you can see the boats from the Pirates of the Carribean ride go by...it's dark and cayjun-like! (Sorry to change the subject)

The thunder, and the rain and the birds.....somewhere, oh, somewhere, there must be a place that resembles the tiki room, where birdies sing and flowers bloom, with characters as colorful as those in the tiki room, with thunder and rain followed by brilliant sunshine.

Is there such a place? There must be......
