David, I was looking into concrete counters, but we are still soo far away from that....
Anyhoo, one site that does counters used a vibrating table to de-air the slab, it was so cool that I thought I would try their method on a stepping stone, just to see how it would turn out. The concrete came out of the mold (a large deli veggie platter cover) with nary a void & with a surface gloss like a polished quartz. Now I'm trying to figure out how to do this on a counter sized slab.... (the pro had a huge automated vibrating table that could fit a good sized counter slab... Mine small table was powered with nervous energy....)

Due to "laziness" on my part, followed by a major computer crash, I haven't posted any updated pics. I will attempt to get some pics up in next few days as I just got some data retrieved.
Mostly, I just wanted to take a moment to proclaim, " We passed plumbing final!!!!!!!!"
Can't believe what a great feeling that is. Now on to solar, electrical, and final final.[

David.... I had a question about the shipping container you used. I was recently very very very bored at work, not just the usual bored but boredddddd. I had the chance to flip thru all 646 of your project pictures and saw you using a container as a shed. 1. I was wondering what you did,if anything, to prep the rust spots on the container? 2. what kind of paint and primer did you use on it? 3. was the container used ? & did you use it to ship your stuff over then just keep it?

Yes, container is used, forget how old though. Bought it in Atlanta 2005, had it certified for Horizon, and shipped my tractor, all its implements, other tools, and some furniture before we moved. Basically, it sat on the property from Apr to Aug.
As for the painting. Did some wire brushing of the worst rust (not my favorite task) and spot painted using Rustoleum metal primer (rusted type). Udsing my Graco airless sprayer, I applied Behr (HD) exterior latex primer, it list metal as appropriate. Color coat was also Behr exterior latex - same as we used on the house.

Dave, Wow! love the tile shower floors (and your master helper.... best way to keep that plastic in place)
Your counters are gorgeous... (I can imagine the sink unveiling.... Phew!) Did you use Hawaiian cement for the counters or use colored cement?
Is your fireplace a see through to the outside lani? We had a see through in our last house in the middle of the great room. They are wonderful to have & draw like crazy.

The fireplace is HeatNGlo Twilight II, which is indoor/outdoor, propane. I'm building a simple Ohia mantle now.

Lol...I was looking at the pics of the way you handle your business and I was expecting the whole..."well first we sand blasted down to metal witha silca base,acetone scrub down, then primer, then a baked on ceramic top coat...". I'm thinking, this guy has a tractor, airless sprayer, huge work shop, there has to be a great story he aint telling about ths container paint job. Thanks for keeping it real Dave.
