Well Drilling
#11
Sure it would hold true. Just last week there was all that talk about the increase bacteria count in rain on the east and central east plains of the mainland.

On the mainland I use county water (river and well) but hold no illusion that it's always safe. The fact the county test their water so often provides a measure of relief that I certainly couldn't get from a private well system because I wouldn't and probably couldn't afford to test as often as or for all the stuff the county tests.

Truth is, be it well, river, rain catchment, lake or whatever, without proper and frequent testing, we really don't know. But with rain, I understand that the list of potential contaminates to test for is so much smaller than well or surface. And I've been told that the concentration of contaminants in rainwater is so diluted compared to aquifers or surface ponds.

From what I understand about wells, most surface water contamination is a result of surface water getting into the well casing due to a poor seal or other man made causes. i.e. improper drainage, burying the well head etc. Mother nature will normally filter out surface contamination by the time it reaches the aquifer.

We have drilled one down there, at the castle house. It was interesting because the water was 79 degrees. Please email or give us a call 966-4129 and we'll talk about the cost and answer any other questions you might have.

Wow!

The deepest hole ever drilled on an oceanic island turned up lots and lots of unexpected freshwater on the Big Island.......The 11,551-foot hole is near Hilo International Airport, and the drilling has been going on for a decade, at a cost of more than $10 million.

I wonder why I never heard of this

Makes me really think twice about the landfill near the airport.

Boy that was done under camoflage, 11,000' is a long way,and why drill for water in Hilo? For 10 million Mr Diamond could have gotten all of puna in wells!

There was another deep well which did pay off in Waikii(sp?) by saddle road. Why is it that the gov spends fortunes for the unusable, but the privates seem to make things that do some good!

Mr Diamond how much water could you find for 10 Mil!
