I've dealt with a number of vets in Hilo and Puna (though not all of them!) over the years for a variety of amimals. The ones I like the most were Aloha Vet (Drs Rodriguez and Lei), Kilauea Veterinary Services (Dr Seeske Versluys) in Keaau and Big Island Pet Care center (Dr Sterrett Grune) in HPP. All are very caring towards the animals and pleasant to their owners. I think Aloha Vet is probably a bit better equipped but often time is of the essence or travel is stressful, so I think if you are a Puna resident it is worth building a relationship with the Puna vets like Drs Versluys and Grune.

All of the ones that have been recommended here are ones that I have consistently heard good things about -- as well as my vet at the Hilo Veterinary Clinic (one of the two originally mentioned). I've been very happy with Dr. Castro and the lady that owned the practice before him (its been so long I have forgotten her name).

We take our 3 boxers to East Hawaii Vet. They seem to like it there.

Thanks, all. We took the kitty to Dr. Rodrigues at Aloha Vet Center. I called around noon and they were able to see her the same day. Hopefully, she'll be feeling better soon.
We had to jump through a lot of hoops to move our cat here from Chicago. At each of at least four vet appointments in the city, the vet would always recommend a $400 tooth cleaning because tarter is starting to build up on her teeth. Dr. Rodgigues was the first vet to ever suggest scraping it off with a fingernail. Brilliant! It's nice to see a vet who cares more for the pet's wellbeing than the dollar.

I ended up taking my dog to East Hawaii Vet Center because they were the only place that was taking appointments either at all or without a month wait. I got an appointment for the next day for the dog I adopted. I waited over an hour, but that was fine compared to waiting several weeks. I'll certainly go back.

Thank you everyone for responding. You have all been very helpful. When I take my dog in, I will let you know how it goes.
