The Council will hold public hearings, it's not fully cleared, only selected by the mayors office. It will probably never be pristine enough for some, and they'll stall it for years to come! I'm betting it'll never be built!

The Kona side doesn't need a waste incinerator either.To go even further ,waste incineration has no place anywhere on this island. So that means
I'm still strongly opposed to Pacific Waste's boondoggle proposal to build a waste incinerator at NELHA.

And what to do with the waste accrued? Plenty no can's, but not much else!
NELHA is an ongoing state scam to benefit a few otherwise unprofitable business, and at great cost to the state taxpayers. It was built as a power source, but because of UH incompetentce and corruption became a resort for otherwise useless UH Professors to scam investors in small busiess schemes many of which duped island residents out of millions!
That property should be paying millions to the state or should be sold to some outside interest as a resort, or whatever.

The County should build a new landfill or bale/ship the trash to the mainland.An aggressive recycling program would help also.

Agree, there's a whole bunch of vacant land near the Kona Airport, which would make a good spot for a landfill. They can mound it up like Fresh Kills NY did and create the largest man-made mountain west of California. It can become a tourist attraction for the cruise ships. The VOG issue in Kona will also mask the smell from the landfill. Now we will have that NIMBY thing to deal with but if the west side wants a new landfill instead of an incinerator, let's give it to them.
I think the whole issue is landfills are ecologically unsound, nobody wants one near them, and a new landfill is what they are trying to avoid.

Better yet, if it's O.K. to ship Hawaii trash to the mainland, let's do it in reverse. Ship mainland trash to Hawaii and start a whole new industry. Think of all the jobs it would create. The economic impact would be huge. This will also ease traffic as people will avoid the roads while the truck with week old garbage is going from the dock to the landfill. And I bet it will also solve the centipede problem as the new mainland rats will surly be looking for a bite to eat after such a long trip to beautiful Hawaii.
