Lawn From Seed vs Plugs
#1
aloha fellow folks with dirt under your nails!

any advice for someone who wants a lawn ?

i've only seen one successful attempt with seeding in 7 years and it was a fulltime job for the guy and an expensive one at that

am plugging a place in kapoho and lost the supplier a third of the way through

would love to hear about anything you encountered!

We've got fairly large sections of lawn planted from what started out as one flat of grass. There was a small section of Dragon's Beard mondo grass which we've been spreading around all over the place, too. I haven't had much luck with grass seed but when we find a type of grass which does well we encourage it and weed out the rest.

Do you have dirt to grow a lawn in? I've seen a house in HPP where they kept a duck in a pen. It was about 8' x 10' or so and they would move the pen every other month or so. Their yard was sort of a checkerboard of really green squares where the duck pen had been. They'd leave the pen there until the cinders had been covered with a good layer of duck fertilizer mixed in with the straw they kept in the duck pen and then they planted grass there after they moved the pen.

Hmmmm...this reminds me of the chicken tractor that was a thread awhile ago....could work the same with a few laying hens, I bet. Or ducks for their eggs.
