VOG
#1
I know there are other threads on this, but my Fiancee' and Myself felt compeled to hear it for ourselves since we are moving soon.

We are a young couple moving to HSRE in 3-4 months (Pet's and business willing) and we're interested in everything the volcano has been doing recently. All our friends over there say it's exciting and nothing to get worried over, but I guess it's not the idea of impending doom from the lava that has us talking, it's the idea of potentially very common vog. I know there are the trade winds, so why all the Vog now? Does it have something to do with the time of year and a temporary wind shift, or does more sulfer dioxide in the air mean more coming punas' way? Period.?

I'd be really interested to hear some of your take on the current situation. Does anyone have a feeling this is something that we will have to get use to, or do you fell something will give and relieve this "pressure"?

There's nothing more I look forward to than being able to wake up each and every morning on the big island, smell the fresh air and go about my normal day, and coming from a city with some of the worst pollution in the U.S. nothing scares me more than the idea of that not changing once we make the move.

Thanks for the feedback.

Tim

the past 6 months have been the worst i've experienced since moving here in 97, we used to get vogged out(upper puna)a half dozen times a year, now........... maybe once the current event subsides it'll get back to normal(now kona is a different story, i wouldn't live up in the hills above kona town if you paid me)

Tim - we also live in HSRE...it's all good...some Vog and it's been bad a few times. Not bad enough to ever regret moving here.

I think the Volcano is clearing its throat, but all is well right now. I don't know what to expect - it's a first for us too. Part of the deal.

I got as far as "Hawai`ian Shores," and I could see 'E' for "Estates," but I was just drawing a complete blank on that 'R!'

Thanks for the info, Cynthia!

Thanks Lofell and Carolanne,

It helps to hear it from you who are there everyday. Like I said I can't wait to be there myself, but all this talk of Vog making people sick, and sending them home from work, I started to question it. Is it worse than I think it is? Is it here to stay?

We live and work in the Los Angeles area, and to anyone who has spent any time here, I don't need to tell you how nasty the air is (Granted it is better than 20 years ago I hear). We completely fell in love with Pahoa the number of times that we have been there, and we decided to make the move. We've come to the realization that we must live our life each and every day, and not wait for it to come to us. So long to L.A., B.I. here we come. A place we can not only breath fresh air, but also share community with such amazing people. Hope to meet you all some day.

With that, I'll sign off.

I looks like the wind just started blowing out of the southwest. Be prepared for vog.
