Termite Tenting Question(s)
#1
So I got wind that they are going to tent my place and fumigate it for termites.

Do I need to wash all my clothes or should I put all my clothes in like big garbage can bags?

I'm assuming naturally I'll need to wash all my dishes again.

Do I steam clean the carpets?

Is my place going to reek for awhile after this?

How much warning does my Property Manager have to give me to vacate for this?

Are they responsible for hotel costs if I check into a hotel?

Argh - the questions [?]

I guess it will be nice when it's done.

On a side note, I came home to my place and construction people were already tearing down my lanai wall and installing another one to "Code". Had no warning that was going to happen.[V]

While I am not a termite expert and I don't know what you should do with your clothes and dishes, they have to provide you with a place to stay at while the property is tented.

Thanks...

Got wind that I'll get an $80.00 "Rebate" on next months rent.

Hopefully I can find a hotel for that price, otherwise I'll be camping out for the night and taking the next day off from work.

plants, pets, clothes, bedding, and don't forget your toothbrush! - all these should be removed
dishes, pots, utensils, cutting boards, countertops, etc - should be washed afterwards
and give the whole place a good airing when you move back in

on the plus side, no more termites and bugs :-)

good luck!

when our house in kailua was tented, we would have paid for our tenant's hotel stay, but she ended up at her friend's house (she and her cat). we deducted one day's rent. i believe your landlord should provide you with 48 hours notice. i could be wrong on that.

the termite company is supposed to provide full instructions on what to pack, how to pack, etc. and they are to provide the bags, too. no one can enter the premises until the lock box is removed.

We just had ours done last week and all we had to take out was house plants and food Including pills and basically anything you consume or put on your skin, except cans. Clothing is fine (might even help get the critters out[Wink]) Good luck, we went camping and diving in kawaihai, it was fun.

Mine is scheduled for this Thursday.

I was just curious how toxic smelling the house was when you came back in the house after 24 hours.

My nose is highly sensitive to certain things.

Did you find dead termites throughout the house that needed to be removed.

Anything else, I need to be prepared for?

I just found out that they will be turning off my gas water heater so I won't have hot water when I return and I have to schedule an appointment with the gas company to get it turned back on.

I remember when I first moved to Hilo, I had never seen a house being termite tented. I drove past Hilo Union Elementary and saw a big tent over the school.... I told my mom.... Hey look... A circus! Needless to say she had a good laugh at me.

In Waikiki now... The place looks like a "mini circus" now.

I like the hotel I'm staying at. I actually have TWO Lanais!

Found out that I won't need to wash the dishes or clothes because they use a gas that disipates.

I'm reporting from a cybercafe now... . to trippy!
