Control your EFFING DOGS!
#1
I just saw this video that "Bigisland" posted in the thieves thread:

I'm extremely upset about this. My son is about to start riding a bike...and my wife was attacked by a dog when she was younger.

Control your dogs people.... had this been me and that dog had been chasing me and my child... I would have done more then just kicked it... I would have taken action and probably destroyed someones pet... sorry folks...

I will kill any dog that may potentially harm my child.[Sad!]

The more we speak up... the more they will listen.

i consider myself to be a responsible dog owner. i've stopped taking them for walks at kailua beach because some people feel like they and their dogs own the whole place. let 'em run free. there were so many times that their dogs would come up to my dogs very aggressively and the owners would do nothing! sorry, to say this, but we carry a large stick with us now. same thing happened along kainalu drive. the idiot was "walking" his dog off leash as he was riding his bike. his dog came right up on my poor little baby (18 years old). i had to scoop her up in my arms. and, another thing: would you please pick up your dog's c@#%p?!

this house here in kailua has never been robbed in over 50 years. two dogs in the back and two in the front. i'm usually home 24/7 and do my darndest to control the barking. there's one particular dog that my dogs just can't stand. well, probably because his owner lets him p!@#$ss all over our wall. they also don't like delivery trucks or the mailman. just the sound of the water/hose turning on and they get their butts back in the house. i just started locking the doors during the day. not because i think a home invasion will take place, but because THE TENANT thinks she can enter any old time she pleases. oops! there i go again, mentioning THE TENANT.

VERY VERY sore subject for me and I feel like typing.

Pepper spray!

I recently bought a box of pepper spray made for dog attacks, I carry it with me on walks now. I plan on actually buying much more and maybe selling it at the Ocean View Saturday Market at a low profit to help other in the same situation..

It works. We have a neighbor dog, small bulldog looking thing, that runs out barking and nipping at hells. Its a smaller dog but I don't want to be bit by any dog and end up in the hospital with a big bill I will end up having to pay. A while back it came out while I was on a walk and I ended up kicking it in the face to stop it from biting me, The owner noticed the entire thing take place. All she had to say is sorry and called the dog in. This pain in the but dog still runs looses and still runs out to bite people. So pretty much every time I walk by I end up having to spray the animal with peperspray. It seems to be getting more hesitant on running into the street now.

I moved to Hawaii almost two years ago and love it here. The dog problem is my biggest problem. No one seems to be able to do anything about it. The government creates worthless laws about barking that are not enforced, especially when you are 40 minutes from the nearest police station. If you call you also get to deal with a pissed off neighbor. And yes I have tried speaking to neighbors and found it to just be a mistake because now they know who is calling the police. I have another neighbor that is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. See lives next to a house with many large barking dogs and two small dogs. The big dogs bark all day and the little dogs go through her cat doors and pee in her house and eat her cat's food in the middle of the night and while she is away. She has tried talking to the owners and gets the FU response. She is afraid to call the police because she lives alone and fears retaliation. This woman has lived in Hawaii her entire life and is now working on selling her home, that she built, and moving off island due to the dogs. THAT STINKS!

Our government flies helicopters and planes over our homes looking for a weed that helps many people relax and helps their medical conditions. If our government spent even a quarter of the money they spend to put the helicopters in the sky on animal control officers, Hawaii would be a MUCH MUCH better place VERY quickly. In Ocean View alone a animal control officer would need a fleet of trucks for a week or so just to round up all the loose dogs.

This dog issue really needs some help, and barking laws may help in some places but we need enforcement. We have leash laws on the books, however just the block I live on has at least 10 to 20 dogs in the street in front of the houses that feed them. I am really surprised that we haven't had more dog related assaults here. In other words people getting in fist fights over someone's loose barking, biting dogs. I am also surprised that someone hasn't totally lost it and went out on a dog killing spree with a firearm. I know I teeter on the verge at times, like 2:00am and it sounds like I live in the middle of the largest dog kennel on the planet.

If anyone knows of a way to help, please post some ideas, especially when it comes to our neighbor that may be moving.

I'm not sure what the laws are, but most counties have limits on the amount of dogs you can have. If there are such laws, try calling the Humane Society. They can take away any excess dogs if it is a huge problem.

As far as barking goes, I think you are just out of luck. If the police don't enforce the noise ordinance then there isn't a lot you can do. Dogs bark because they are bored and/or irritated. You can't force your neighbor to walk their dogs or train them, so it's just a sad case. I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor.

Snail bait mixed with dog food. Leave a bowl of it in your driveway.

Oh noo!! [:0][V]Try the humane society or other means first. NASTY what
snail bait does. Kills em quick. Our friend accidentally had
some in his yard, and beloved dog of 12 years ate some. Died in
its owners arms, they are still devasted. Pretty sure it is traceable by vet. Just as bad as antifreeze! Argh....[xx(]

Sorry, I don't take any pleasure in all that. I'm simply offering a no-nonsense solution.

The human society, I'm sure, without hyperbole, would need to gather up HUNDREDS of dogs in my neighborhood, and it's simply not sensible to expect them to do so. I'm sure they're at 150 percent capacity as it is.

Nobody's dog has any business on my property. They bark all night, run up and down the road, tear up the trees I've just planted. They tear up each other. I've found dogs sleeping in my house while working in the garden on occasion and some of them not to friendly. I'm implementing a blast on sight policy around here, and I'll compost them in the back someplace, and as far as anyone else needs to know, dogs will just disappear.

And I expect, if loose dogs tend to disappear, fewer dogs will be let loose.

Your suggestion is viable, I just had vision of what it does.
My husband plans on getting his sling shot practice with
our neighborhood hounds [Wink]once we get there full time.

The problem isn't the dogs. It's the people who keep these dogs.

The problem isn't the guns - it's the people who own the guns!

Especially, for someone on a bike. Especially, a child - who might have ZERO experience about what a @#$%(fill in with whatever tickles your fancy) border collie is or does. [Sad!]

Oh! Sentiment - what sentiment are you agreeing to? [?]
Sorry, to hear your child was tramautized by a barking, chasing(herding) dog.
Glad, they didn't hit a tree, fall in a ditch, crash and break something - cut something.
Confused, that you would be upset with a dumb animal following it's natural instincts.

O.K. my RANT has subsided! [}Smile][Wink]
