Control your EFFING DOGS!
#41
Dear Neighbor,

On April 21, 2008, and lasting until June 10, 2010, my son will be conducting a scientific school experiment on the evaporation and absorption rate of ethylene glycol (automotive antifreeze) in a Hawaii environment. This experiment will require the placing of multiple bowls of ethylene glycol on the ground for monitoring.

Since ethylene glycol is extremely toxic to animals and will lead to a long and painful death. Animals are prohibited from entering our private property during this experiment. This notice will serve as required warning and you are requested to immediate instruct or control your animal from entering our private property. Failure to abide by this restriction is an indemnification from any liability resulting from injury or death of such animal.

Thank You,
Your neighbor

Hawaii is a one-bite state, despite an animal liability statute that appears to say otherwise.

The owner or harborer of an animal which is known by its species or nature to be dangerous, wild, or vicious, if the animal proximately causes either personal or property damage to any person, shall be absolutely liable for such damage

Bob Orts, I belive EPA wold take umbrage at open, (even on own property) Hasmat listed substances, inadequetly stored or presented!

Also be sure to keep tylenol otc away from dogs, as it can kill same(a little gentler)!

.22 cal pellet guns are good to!

Hows about an ORGANIC repellant/poison, Buffos, cane toads! Hell the aussies lick em,but a dog attack assures a dead dog, and naturally! Mabe a little beef broth where the toad lives as an attractant!

For those of you who desire the ability to plink with .17 or .22 cal pellet guns, but don't have one, you should consider another option if you have a .22 rimfire revolver or bolt action rifle. That option is the .22 cal. CB long. It has the velocity, power and report of a powerful pellet rifle but fires from a .22 cal. rimfire revolver or bolt action rifle. They fire by primer power only. There is no gunpowder. The downside is that they are a bit dirty and don't function properly in some longer and more tightly bored barrels. They will not operate the action of a semiauto although I have used them in semiautos by placing my thumb against the bolt handle, and then manually cycling the action. No hearing protection needed. They are accurate at short range to a maximum consistent accurate range of about 15 Yrds. Accuracy at longer ranges isn't consistent. They can consistently take small game and pests like rabbits and rats. They can take dog sized game but only with extremely well placed shots at closer ranges. They are lots of fun and you can hunt plenty of cans without disturbing anyone. As with any firearm, normal safety precautions should be taken.

That letter appeared on dozens of doors and was posted on lamppost in that same area. It prompted dozens of calls to the sheriff, police, humane society and elected officials. Local veterinarians reported a rise in calls about ethylene glycol poisoning along with people bringing in pets suspected of ingesting the liquid and suffering from it’s effects. Residents were so afraid they started keeping their pets inside or monitoring their movements to prevent them from leaving their property. For a few months, pet owners lived in fear of their beloved pets going into someone yard and getting poisons. Community leaders even held meetings to address the fear and concern along with tips and suggestions for keeping pets safe.

It also pitted neighbor against neighbor. Some owners with free roaming pets were being told that it’s not a problem if they keep their animals confined and out of other people yards. People started telling of finding animal feces in their yards, how neighborhood cats were using children sandboxes as litter boxes. Even discussions about killing cats made its way into a community meeting.

From time to time someone would leave an empty antifreeze container sitting on the mailboxes. One person who had cats they occasionally had let roam free even after the scare found a bowl of water with some green/yellow food dye just sitting at their front door. They have kept their cats confined since.

To this day, fears of someone actually doing this or a copycat doing it in secret haunts the community. I know the letter was determined to be false, but the message was delivered.

Talk about "Passive Aggressiveness" [Wink]

I'm curious how the letter was determined to be false though?

I started this thread because that video that i saw in that initial post pretty much pissed me off.

I'll say it again...for the third time.... I will protect my child over any strange dog that gets aggressive....(on my property or off)

If you think that's cruel...then so be it.

Like I said also... my wife was attacked at a young age and I know the family out Fern Acres that had an infant brutalized and killed by a dog about 4-5 years.

I have nothing against the dogs....it's the owners that need to control them. If that means spaying/neutering or whatever needs to be done then do it.

If your talking stray dogs... I'll shoot them dead if they get near my child.... no ifs ands or buts about it.

Cruel... or Protective... You make the call[Wink]

It's a discussion board and this video got me pissed off... it has obviously riled some other peoples feathers.

SHOULD "WE" AS A WEB COMMUNITY... ASK THE "PEOPLE" OF "FoPF" to look more into this dog situation a bit further and possibly look at some legislation in the future?

legislation would be great in a state where laws are enforced. Johnny law is to busy flying helicopter around looking for weeds to do anything that would actually help the poeple of Hawaii. Maybe we should invest in some traps. Trap loose dogs then drop them all off by the mayors house. Maybe then something would get done. That something probaly being us thrown in jail.
