I was wondering what effect the Stryker Brigrade will have now that they will be training @ Pohakuloa Training Grounds? Is this something new or have they always been training there? I was thinking they were only on Oahu.

Looks like the Big island will get part of the 250 million that comes with the stryker brigade.
"The Army says it can now complete more than $250 million in construction projects blocked by environmentalists and native Hawaiian groups who opposed plans by the Pentagon to station its fifth Stryker brigade combat team in the islands.
These projects would include building private roads from Schofield Barracks to Dillingham Airfield, another one from Schofield to Helemano and from Kawaihae Harbor to the Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island to keep the Stryker vehicles and other troop movements off civilian highways."

Some of my anti military neighbors/friends are livid I'm sure.
Sleep well tonight.
Perhaps, we'll actually see better on island support for Guard, Active and Retired military.

was there ever any doubt? the continuing increase in militarization in the u.s. and the islands is insane, of course when you have people happy with it because they might make money$$$$(look at all the money that is being made with the current failed wars)then i guess it will continue, one day maybe there will finally be a majority who will change this destructive course. yes i am an earth("dirt")worshipper

Lopenkof, we haven't been attacked by anyone from outside since 9-11, and that same military does constant outside aid, especially in disaster relief! The regions they're using aren't being used for anything else, and never have been and never will be!
As far as the spoiling and polluting the Aina, the new rules they have to follow will avoid any real damaging activity, most of the Hazmat work is on Oahu, and pretty well under control there!

Kahunascott, You ARE a Hawaiian Shaman or holy man, right?
I find some of your ideas contradictory to Hawaiian religeous beliefs.
