....where? We just moved here from Elko.

I was born in Reno but lived most of my adult life a little NE of there in Lemmon Valley then in Sun Valley -- about 5500 feet, a little higher, drier, hotter and colder than Reno but not nearly as extreme weather-wise as Elko. Haven't been to Elko in many, many years but have a friend who just sold her business there and moved down to Silver Springs near Fallon. Still have a lot of Nevada ties. Welcome to Puna.

too soon old, too late smart
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

True, mosquitoes are more of a where you are type thing. Trade winds help keep them moving, so a place that does not get any trades has more 'skeeters'. We also lived next door to a house that had a lot of water gardens (with no fish...) and a lot of bromiliads, & that area had more bites....friends that live in jungley lots have more, one that really opened their lot (got rid of 4 large albezias & 1 old non-fruit mango) now have more breezes & very few 'skeeters'...also higher elevations have fewer... We live in town in Keaau, and have very few...
