Tips the champagne to Dr. W
#1
A proposed $125.5 million Hilo trash incinerator went down in flames Monday when the County Council's money committee recommended against buying the waste-to-energy plant.

Cheers Dr. W.

Thanks, Damon.
However, I'm not quite ready to do any celebrating, yet.
Wheelabrator has been filling PO Boxes with their propaganda, printed on non-recycled paper; and, there is the radio.
In two weeks, the full Council will vote and we still need to push.

Also, sure, I have done lots of hounding on this bad idea, but the weight of the badness in the idea really doomed it from the outset.

And, finally, now there is work to do to get the better alternatives rolling Wink

Not going "back" to anything.
This is about catching up to the present and moving on to the future.

Dr W, I concede, you won! Now we only need one dump pumped, tested and filtered if possible, an d forever pumped! Then another one, same thing after liner sump pump and treatment!
Haven't heard much of nothing since the council vote! What's the EPA take on this! Or are we goig to be like Mauna Loa, and just pay the EPA fines!(Can TheY?) it's under 100K$ I believe but they've been having trouble financially! Over a few cesspools! What'll a whole dump cost in fines?
What work I did with the EPA, retains records for 50 years, until which time I will be liable if somthing was stored wrong or whatever!
Plus there were personal fines for certain violations on duty! Who's going to be here to face the music if it comes down!

Gtill,

Check your email... just sent you a question irrelevant to Punaweb.

In other Wheelabrator news today:

"Recycling may take on a new look for residents of Concord, Laconia, Franklin and 24 surrounding New Hampshire towns.

The board governing the cooperative that handles trash for the communities has approved moving forward with a plan to build a state-of-the-art recycling facility. The plant would be built in Concord or Franklin and would use "single-stream" technology. Instead of sorting plastics, glass and paper, residents can put all recyclables in the same bin and it will be sorted at the facility.

The cooperative's contract with Wheelabrator for trash disposal runs out next year, and fees are expected to go up dramatically. The single-stream facility was proposed as a way to increase recycling and reduce trash costs. Cooperative members would receive about $10 per ton that they deliver and would share in revenue.

The board voted Tuesday night in Bow to authorize the cooperative to get a purchase-and-sales agreement on one of three properties on the cooperative's short list."

One more blow to Wheelabrator in favor or recycling.

Lower your expectations and be ready for anything.

Looks good, I see 27 cities and a close run to Boston or some industrial center! Someone has developed a plant which can make a profit because of liquidity and short shipping to industrial users! No Matson or YB in the loop! What's their rainfall? Show me someone who can come up with it here! Before the fines come rolling in!
Got your message, and nope, I wish though!
