Aloha Shuts down everything INCLUDING Cargo
#1
Man this is going to impact Big Island residents dramatically.

The Agriculture industry relies heavily on Aloha Cargo!

This is really going to hurt. [V]

I could handle the possibility of the Pilots going on Strike, but a complete shutdown I did not think was going to happen so soon.

I'm trying to look at the positive side of this.

Big Island ships much of it's produce through Aloha's Cargo system.

If they can't send it over, then the supply/demand factor on the Big Island should favor consumers of local produce.

Hopefully this will make prices drop, since there may be just too much stuff sitting around.

Can anyone else think of the some positives and/or the obvious negatives of this shutdown?

The fact will probably be they can write off the losses for awhile, but the chances of them running around to sell what they have are slim. Probably give it to a charity and write it off!

I hate agreeing with you [Big Grin][Big Grin]

Seriously though, we need to go through the legal steps before we get the hopes up....

But in the meantime bring in the Superferry.

Talks are already under way of using Military Force!

Lucky we live in paradise

Doesn't our first class mail come via Aloha Cargo? I'm pretty sure it does. And what about the Big Island Flower industry. Aloha was heavily used for transporting flowers to other islands.

I guess Hawaiian and Go Airlines will pick up the slack.

Yes...by all means bring in Superferry. Except Kauai doesn't want it and the BIG ISLAND WON'T GET IT UNTIL 2009.

Unfortunately, Hawaiian and Go airplanes are not configured to handle "Cargo".

One of the two companies, Jupiter Holdings Group, said it bowed out when Aloha and GMAC increased the asking price to $15 million. Jupiter had been the highest bidder with an offer of $13.65 million.

follow the money

Actually, the article says just the opposite, that NO talks have been done regarding using the military.
